We've Roamed Round Arles, had Agay Experience, stood on the Edge of the Grand Canyon so far in the intoxicating and almost enthralling series. In this instalment we shall experience the nerve-tingling excitement of the rim; witness the sheer, pant-wetting terror of a drive around the abyss; groan at the feeble attempts at humour while sharing the highs, and hopefully not the lows, of the death-defying, stunningly stupefying, automobile excursion from hell in..... * A Drive Around the Gorge du Verdon * The River Verdon begins its journey at 2500m above sea level before winding its way for some 170 km until it joins forces with the Durance. The river, once wild, has these days be...Read More

Wait a minute, I hear you say. What the sneck is a review about the Grand Canyon doing in a journal about France?. Before you go reaching for that off button please allow me to explain: I'm not writing about Arizona's premier tourist attraction. What I'm referring to is the Verdon Gorge aka Europe's Grand Canyon. Also, when I use the expression 'on the edge' I don't mean the review is a little bit risque. No way man. I'm actually reviewing a village at the gateway to the aforementioned gorge. We left Agay and drove through some beautiful hilltop villages on our way to our base for exploring Europe's Grand Canyon - the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. Located at th...Read More

Calm down, there's no need to panic girls - it's not what you think. I haven't forsaken the lovely Mrs P. for the adventures of pastures new. Although there have been times whe..... You just weren't reading the title properly, were you? Have another look. AGAY - A small beach resort in the South of France between St. Raphael and Cannes. Phew! That's a relief! Let's start with a little bit of advice: If you would like to search on the web for some pictures of this picturesque little town, be prepared for some explicit images of a non-family nature. How can I put it? If you're not interested in seeing large, hairy, naked men in various poses, don't do it! If, on the other hand, y...Read More

So there we are, driving south on the motorway, heading for ARLES in Provence. The weather is not too great, it's overcast and everything is dull and grey. It's a long drive and it's not made any easier by my fellow road users. Is there some sort of French custom that I'm not aware of? Is it a requirement of passing a driving test in France that you have to be able to stray over the lines at frighteningly regular intervals, usually when some good natured, happy-go-lucky character is overtaking them. SACRE BLEU! It's not all that difficult to steer a car between two white lines along a wide and straight road. Anyway....we survived (obviously or who would have written about it - a ghost writer?). ...Read More

We've stayed at a few Best Westerns, in a few different countries, and we've never been disappointed at the standard of accommodation for the price. So, when on a driving holiday in the South of France approaching Nimes, we saw a sign directing the route to the BEST WESTERN l'ORANGERIE, we had no hesitation in having a look-see. l'ORANGERIE is situated in a peaceful, and very pretty area of wooded parkland, around 1km from the historic heart of this beautiful city and with easy access to/from the A9 motorway. This suited us fine - neither myself or Mrs P are all that keen on city-centre hotels. We always think it's nice to have an oasis to escape to, and the secluded situation of this hot...Read More
