Before my last time in Florence, I wasn't too familiar with a lot of places in the Oltrarno area of town (the neighborhoods on other side of the Arno River from most of the tourist sites). Luckily I had several weeks to explore this area on my last visit, and gladly say that Open Bar was a daily (and sometimes more-than-once-a-day) cafe that I would frequent.Located in the Golden View Restaurant which overlooks the river and sits just southeast of the Ponte Vecchio, Open Bar is an elegant bar which, although it looks as thought it could be pretentious, is nothing of the sort. The employees here were always very nice and the prices are very moderate. This is not only a great plac...Read More

Attraction | "Trendy Young Hip Aperitivo"

If you're looking for one of the trendy places in Florence to visit for aperitivo, then Moyo could be the place for you. Very popular with foreign students and younger Italian students as well, Moyo seems to always draw a crowd - weekdays or weekends.in the day time, you'll see the outdoor patio area filled with people sipping coffee and taking advantage of the free wi-fi hot spot. American students are a staple here because of the American Breakfast - a concept not as popular in Italy. It's for those looking for eggs and sausage instead of the usual coffee and pastry. And by the evening time, the entire restaurant - inside, outside, and spreading to the neighboring sidewalks - is full of ...Read More

The Fusion Bar at Lugarno Suites Hotel

Restaurant | "For a Chic Aperitivo"

One of the chicest places in town to go for an aperitivo is Fusion Bar. Located in the Lugarno Suites Hotel, a swanky hotel facing the Arno River just next to the Ponte Vecchio, this bar is a mix of asian-fusion cuisine with a new world modern twist. On my most recent trip to Florence, I ended up going here for the first time with a friend who recommended it. The first thing I noticed was the elegant decor. There's a large covered patio area which sits in a small piazza just off the side of the hotel. Wrapped in clear coverings for the chillier months, and open during the days of pleasant temperatures, the outside seating is a mix of tables and groupings of plush white cushions for lounging...Read More

Oibo Cafe Ristorante

Restaurant | "Sophisticated, Chill Place for a Cocktail"

Oibò   For a nice, chill place for a drink head to Oibo. Although this cafe is open all day, and serves breakfast and lunch, it's most popular for the aperitivo and after dinner drink crowds. With its chic interior space, filled with a glass balcony, modern lighting, and arched windows looking out into the neighboring piazza, its no wonder why this newer place in the city has grown steadily.Located across from the famous Piazza Santa Croce on the corner of Via de' Benci and Borgo dei Greci, Oibo still feels like a bit of an undiscovered place for tourists. There's not much of a sign outside, and I just know to look for the few covered tables on the sidewalk as well as the array...Read More

Il rifrullo

Restaurant | "A Chic Place Across the River"

Quote:
One of our favorite restaurants in Florence during our stay there was that of Il Rifrullo. Located in the Oltrarno area of the city (across the river from the center), this place offers a wonderful bar, great dining room, and beautiful terrace area. The prices are moderate and the atmosphere always a good mix. If you're looking for a fun place away from the main drag of restaurants mentioned in guidebooks, walk over to San Niccolo neighborhood to Il Rifrullo. They're even open on Sundays for brunch, and is a popular place for locals in the morning, or an aperativo in the evenings. There are numerous events that are hosted here, which are on their website calendar, including wine tastings an...Read More
