I have been going to the Renaissance Festival for many years and this year I decided to head out this year with my buddy Karen. Turned out to be an awesome day of fun. The festival has grown since it started in 1994 with 6 aces of fun to 22 areas now in a permanent location. Today guests can enjoy more than a 100 vendors offering food and crafts and 10 stages of family entertainment. The main entertainment is the jousting event that is held several times throughout the day. There are several hundred varying costumes characters that include local talent and traveling talent. The entertainment includes comedians, belly dancers, fairies, jugglers, and pirates. There is a man who l...Read More

It should be noted that don’t plan a trip to Monticello while here or any of the other houses. Monticello is about 20 minutes from town and the only way to get there without a car is by bus and it is suggested to allow 3-4 hours here alone. We arrived in Charlottesville at noon. By the time I got off the train, caught the shuttle and got into town it was 12:30 and I had to be back on the train by 3. The Asheville trip does allow extra time giving you 5 hours, but don’t plan a trip to the Biltmore either. You need pretty much a whole day to see the home. Tips 1. Arrive early. Seats are first come, first serve. The seats in the front and back offer more space. Groups can ...Read More

For several years now the NC Transportation Museum has been offering fall trips at the last part of October. Charlottesville VA was the destination for many years. But last year they started offering a trip to Charlottesville on Saturday and Asheville on Sunday. Just like Scarowinds, I have already written a journal on the NC Transportation Museum in my 5 of the 22 journal. If you are interested in reading about that, please see that journal. The museum is one of 22 state owned attractions and showcases all types of transportation from wagons to space travel and everything in between. It is one of the largest and most popular of the museums. You can even take a 20 minute train rid...Read More

Attraction | "Amazing what a little hot air will do!"

This was mine and John’s 3rd trip to the annual event and while it started out as a rough start, ended up being a spectacular evening. The first balloon rally was held the first week in October 1974 and did last a week. The year prior Balloon Works was started in Statesville by Tracy Barnes offering sport hot air balloons. The first event was sponsored by Ariel Ascensions, who were customers of Balloon Works. Guests from all over the country came for bonding, networking, camping, and fishing. In 1978 the rally was moved to nearby Love Valley where Balloon Works were now operating. It was still a week long event bringing balloon fans and for the first time, spectators. The rally soon ...Read More
