Mercy Gilbert Medical Center

Attraction | "Maternity Ward is a delight"

Quote:
Our newest granddaughter (#4) decided to make her appearance while we were in town (an answer to a fervent prayer) and so we got to see the Mercy Gilbert Medical Center up close and personal. The entrance foyer is large and mostly empty. The receptionist desk is to the right and all visitors must check in and receive a temporary badge to wear while they are on the premises. The gift shop and cafeteria are to the right as you pass through the archway that leads to the elevators. Since this is a non-profit entity, there is no sales tax on the items purchased. (Might be a good place to do your holiday shopping...)The maternity ward is on the 3rd floor and is a secure environmen...Read More

Goldfield Ghost Town

Attraction | "The Old West relived today"

Goldfield Ghost Town Photo, Apache Junction, Arizona
Quote:
Goldfield is a re-creation of an old west mining town nestled in the shadows of the Superstition Mountains, complete with an old mine (open for tours) and an antique train to ride. Admission and parking are free, but there is a small fee for the train, mine, and mystery house. Combo tickets can save you a dollar or two.The train ride takes about 20 minutes and it circles the town so that you can see the old mines and the majestic Superstitions. The train engineer (Jerky) gives a quick history of the area as he drives you down the tracks. He stops the train at strategic spots for photos or just to tell you what is out there in the desert. The mine tour shows the cramped quart...Read More

Fountain Festival of Arts and Crafts

Attraction | "Arts, Crafts and a View"

Fountain Festival of Arts and Crafts Photo, Fountain Hills, Arizona

We learned about the Arts and Crafts festival on the TV show "Good Morning Arizona" and it looked like it would be an interesting day trip. Fountain Hills is in the East Valley area and has a beautiful lake with a (duh!) large fountain that shoots up every hour from 10AM to 9PM (weather and wind permitting). It was once classified by Guiness Book of World Records as the highest fountain in the world. That classification no longer exists, but the beauty of the fountain does. The Festival is held every spring and fall and vendors come from far and wide to sell their wares. It is one of the largest arts and craft fairs in the area. The vendor tents sit up on the hill, perched like so many...Read More

China City Super Buffet

Restaurant | "All you can eat and crab legs too"

Quote:
This is like one of those oriental restaurants that dot all the shopping areas throughout the country, but it is not just a "hole in the wall' eatery. The decor is lush with dark woods and comfortable seating - either booth or table. There are several food bars piled high with food for your buffet dining (or you can order a la carte from a generous menu). The baked mussels, baked crab and cheese, coconut shrimp and snow crab legs are just a suggestion of the seafood variety. The extensive choice of chicken dishes include sesame, orange, kung pao and more - there are also pork and beef selections along with several kinds of rice, noodles and vegetables. A sushi bar and mongolian grill (...Read More

Crackers & Co

Restaurant | "Breakfast, Lunch and Desserts"

Crackers & co. cafe is a small restaurant in a small office park located behind Home Depot on S. Country Club Dr. in Mesa. They only serve breakfast and lunch, so be sure to get there early. They open at 7AM and close at 2:30PM.I ordered the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast. It was thick, eggy and full of cinnamon swirls. Honey butter and maple syrup complimented the cinnamon flavor. The plate came with 3 large slices, cut in half - a very generous portion in anyone's eyes. A side of sliced sliced bananas and whipped cream were the perfect accompaniment (although I only had a small taste of the whipped cream since grandson #1 ate most of it).Hubby ordered the veggie omelet...Read More
