BREAKFASTSBreakfasts were included in our room price so we made the most of these. Breakfast is served from 6am under a thatched room area. On offer was a single choice of fruit juice (tropical), a selection of fruit, papaya, banana, apple were all fresh with tinned peaches and pineapple as well. The fruit selection changed daily which was nice as you might get tired of the same fruit every day if you were staying for two weeks. Tea and coffee were served but the service was a bit hit and miss as you had to ask at least three times before you actually got one. Some days were better than others so I think it depended on how busy they were at the time. There was toast in one of thos...Read More

Aggie Grey’s lagoon, Beach Resort and Spa, SamoaARRIVING:We arrived in Samoa at about 6am their time, via Los Angeles which was a pretty gruelling journey with two 11 hour flights and a four and a half hour wait in LAX.The airport in Apia was quite tiny and the passport control was relatively painless. We did have to complete a customs form each and then the luggage was scanned prior to leaving the airport to check you weren’t bringing in anything agricultural apparently. We were met by a representative from Aggie Grey’s and then shown to a mini bus.The drive from the airport was about 10 minutes but this resort is quite a way out of Apia town which was about 45 mi...Read More

Attraction | "Turtles, and a very basic car ferry"

Quote:
This is second half of our day trip to Savaii NorthThe next stop was one of the listed highlights but we were slightly concerned. There was an opportunity to swim with turtles and I had naively thought it would be in a lagoon. Sadly the turtles have been corralled off in a river which is fresh water and they are naturally salt water animals. They were being fed on fruit which is not really their natural diet and so the whole thing was not exactly eco friendly. A few people did swim with them but we decided against it. While you can’t blame the villages for being enterprising enough to catch the tourist dollar it is a shame that such beautiful creatures are being kept captive in rather ques...Read More

lSamoan Scenic tours : Full day tour of Savaii NorthThe pickup from our resort was at 7.15, an hour later than the pickup from Aggie Grey’s Hotel in Apia as the ferry port was only 5 minutes away from the Lagoon resort. The mini bus was very cosy so we got to know the other people in the group quite well by the end of the day. They were all New Zealanders; we were in Samoa during the NZ School holidays so there were a lot of NZ families staying. We got to the ferry port and got out of the bus which had to be taken and sprayed in order to prevent the spread of the giant African Snail from Upolu to Savaii. We were given two tickets each so we thought we might be keeping one half...Read More

ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON MUSEUMVailima is the house that Robert Louis Stevenson and his family lived in up until his death in 1894. Robert Louis Stevenson has become synonymous with Samoa and is highly respected in Samoa, where he is known as tusitala, the teller of tales. A large celebration was held in 1994 to mark the centenary anniversary of his death and people travelled from all over the world to take part. His house which is a beautiful wooden colonial building has been beautifully restored and turned into a museum by a sponsor in the USA and maintained by the Government of Samoa. The wood for the house was all imported from the USA and is American Redwood and it took two ...Read More
