Shenandoah Caverns

Attraction | "A Cool Attraction"

Quote:
Shenandoah Caverns is located near New Market, VA, about 35 minutes from Massanutten Resort. The caverns are climate controlled, and remain 56 degrees all year long. They are the only cavern system which has an elevator to take visitors up and down so they don't have to climb the stairs. Keep in mind if walking is a problem, there are some areas that are on a slope and are slick, and this could be tricky. The caverns opened up in 1922, and they have very neat formations - colored lights shine on solid white, there are stalactites and stalagmites, and they even have formations that resemble bacon. There is one area where a huge stone weighing tons is balanced precariously and the guide will tell y...Read More

Massanutten Resort is not just a winter destination. It has so many things you can do all year long! We visited a few weeks after school was out, and as usual, we were not disappointed. They have added some new things this year, and they were unique and great experiences for the adults and kids in our group!

Attraction | "Something New"

Tubing is a great activity for both kids and adults. Special mats allow you to slide down the slope with no water necessary! Watch the bumps - you can get some air! The kids thought that the people going down headfirst were crazy, and would only go down feet first. You have to be at least 36".There is another section for kids, with bounces, water tags, and obstacle courses that will keep them busy. We especially liked the gem mining and had cold snocones.1 hour combo $122 hours $162 tube rides $8You pay extra for the gem mining.Open 10 am - 5 pmFrom May 3 - June 4 open Monday, Wednesday, and FridayFrom June 5 - Augu...Read More

Murdery Mystery Dinner Theater

Attraction | "How About a Murder with your Dinner?"

Quote:
Check out the "A Murder Mystery Dinner" at the Massanutten Conference Center. This was an action packed whodunnit with a great meal - we had appetizers, salad, and a buffet including crab legs and a carving station, and so many decadent desserts.

Reservations must be made in advance, and the mystery dinner is on Wednesday. Tickets are $65.

Fareways Restaurant and Lounge

Restaurant | "A Great Meal"

Quote:
A meal at Fareways is a great way to end a long day skiing. This restaurant serves breakfast from 7:30 - 11:30 am; lunch from 11:30 am - 4:30 pm; and dinner from 5 pm - 10 pm. We choose a variety of meals since there were seven of us - everything we ordered was expertly prepared, hot, and delicious! We had appetizers, salads, tender juicy steaks, and catfish. The kids ordered burgers and sandwiches.

Massanutten WaterPark

Attraction | "Quick Service Restaurant"

Quote:
While taking in the waterpark, we ate lunch at Snackers. It's right inside the waterpark, and serves food cafeteria style. The food is already prepared (except when they are really busy, you might have to wait a few minutes) and is kept at the proper temperature. You can eat and get back to the park! They have glass windows with a view of the outside part of the waterpark and of the mountains. We enjoyed cheeseburgers, salads, pizza, fries, drinks, and ice cream!

Open 12 pm - 9 pm Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday

Snow Sports at Massanutten

Attraction | "A Cool Ride"

Quote:
Another of our favorites was the river tubing. Departing daily, rain or shine, at 9 am and 12:30 pm. A Massanutten staff person will transport you to the river, starting near the dam. You float 2 1/2 miles down the lazy river. Life jackets are provided along with the necessary instruction, and round trip transportation is also provided. We had a blast, and kept cool in the 90 degree heat.

$24 per person

Buy your tickets for this attraction, and get a birds eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We took loads of photos, the area looks completely different when there is no snow on the ground. A great way for those who would never go to the top of the mountain to see what all the fuss is about.

Open from 8:30 am - 3 pm, $6 adult, $4 for kids 12 and under. Kids 5 and under are free with a paying adult.

This time we tried the horseback ride. It lasted an hour, and was guided. Several of the kids were a little hesitant, but quickly got into it. All of the horses were expertly matched to each riders ability. We had a slow ride and greatly enjoyed the views.

Trail rides are by reservation only, and you should book ahead because they fill up fast.

For the little ones, there is a petting farm; sheep, bunnies, ducks, a turkey, a goat, and a pot belly pig! For those too small to ride, the staff will lead the horse around the arena.

Hours are seasonal, call ahead.
