Quote:
In the southern part of Hampton Roads is the city of Chesapeake where one of the main roads is Battlefield Boulevard. Going down this road several miles from the I-64 you will eventually come to a very modern drawbridge before you come to the town of Great Bridge. To the left before you get to the bridge is a monument that has no easy way to gain access to or figure out what is represents. It was here at the Battle of Great Bridge that the end came to the British Colonial Government in Virginia almost eight months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1775.In the late 1700’s, the area that is now strip malls and great restaurants was a causeway that was surrounded by the Great...Read More

Restaurant | "Best Of awarded for a great reason"

Quote:
Located almost right at the Great Bridge on Battlefield Parkway (the location of the DEC 1775 battle between Virginia and North Carolina forces and the British in the American Revolution), it is easy to miss seeing the restaurant in the plaza to the right. Because of its location, this is a great place for meeting up with friends and for having some fantastic Mexican food. When you see the awards won by the Three Amigos for being the best Mexican Restaurant in Chesapeake, you know that there is something special about the place. They won the silver in the Best of Hampton Roads in 2010, and there are a lot of other Mexican restaurants that try hard to be the best. Make no mistake about it –...Read More

Broken Egg Bistro

Restaurant | "The Best Breakfast in the Tidewater Region?"

Quote:
Yes – mark Broken Egg as tied with Sunrise Café for having the best breakfast in Hampton Roads. That is not a statement to be taken lightly, because both are easily the best in the state as well. That the food at Broken Egg is very good is not an unknown factor – being most of the people in the crowd waiting in line are local. Saturday and Sundays are very busy in the mornings. And if your not there before 10am – just know that the wait is definitely worth it because the food is fantastic. Once you do get a seat, service is fast. You may also find that asking to sit at the bar versus at a table may get you a seat faster. The bar is not a bad place to sit and have a Pomegranate Mimosa or a...Read More

Restaurant | "Worth a Breakfast or Dinner Stop!"

Stopped in for the first time the other week after driving past many times. Thought the service was really great and the whole staff was really friendly. I would have gone back again just because of the way was treated as a customer -- but the food was good enough that will go back for that reason too! Rule of thumb tends to be that when you do find a diner that has great food and a young terrific staff that is customer orientated – you do go back again and again.Do try the chicken fried steak! They do a great job at Pop's in making a chicken fried steak that is cooked to perfection and the batter is delicious - and so is the gravy. Would recommend the sweet fries as well. Paradocks East Coast Grille

Restaurant | "Great for Drinks and not so much for Food"

Quote:
Not much a fan of the food at Paradocks - just have not had anything there that would rank in they "I will have this again" column. Wings - plenty of sauces - but this just aint Buffalo Wild Wings. I even tried the lumpia, and would not recommend them. However - their sports bar is great for a place to go and watch big games. This is the place you would want to go to see the Super Bowl or any major college game or World Cup games. They have an awesome selection of crafted and global bottled beers and plenty of good beers on the tap (American and craft ones) to keep your interest in trying some different beers. That is not said too lightly, when a bar stocks over 70 types of bottled beers – and ha...Read More

Johnson's BBQ

Restaurant | "This Must be Heaven!"

I went to try Johnson's after seeing it many times in passing in the plaza - but never able to get there before it closes at 7pm. For a long while I was not even sure if it was actually open because they do close early. Luckily – I did get out of work one day and was in the plaza and smelled the wood smoker outside when passing – and stopped in. The smoker is outside by the road corner - and you could smell the wonderful smell of smoke as you pulled into their parking lot. You walk into a great little diner with BBQ trophies and articles all over the walls from years of head-to-head contest wins across the US. This is not oven cooked BBQ you get at Johnsons - it is the real thing. By the time y...Read More

Sunrise Breakfast Shop

Restaurant | "Southern Living's Top 5 Best Breakfast in Virginia"

Quote:
If you are headed down Battlefield Road towards Great Bridge (where a battle of the American Revolution occurred in DEC 1775 is about 3 blocks away from the restaraunts plaza) in the morning and hungry, this is the place to go and have breakfast. You will find Sunrise to be one of those amazing and completely charming southern diners with really good food. And yes – they do have Filipino foods and specials as well! I had read the Southern Living article that had rated Sunrise Breakfast Shop as one of the top 5 breakfast places in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and since it was only a few miles away from my house - went and tried it myself. They were right on target- and now I am a regular there ...Read More
