MacArthur Park

Attraction | "I wanted to see here due to the song."

Its corny but true. I only wanted to see here because of the Donna Summer song in the 70s. Anyway Macarthur Park is a long open-air park in central Los Angeles and it looks splendid. I must warn however it is in an area that is quite questionable and has made the news in recent years for having gang related activity. However if you go through the day, it is well policed and apart from the fact that there are lots of people standing around, it is ok.Macarthur Park has its own subway station on the main line. I travelled from Union station, a mere one stop away. You can buy a single ticket for a mere dollar and half. The area was very busy with street vendors and commuters. The area surround...Read More

Chinatown

Attraction | "The best chinatown i have seen"

I have been to several chinatowns in the usa: New York, Philadelphia, San Franciso and Chicago to name but a few, but the best one is Los Angeles. I took a trip to Downtown Los Angeles and was unimpressed with the downtown area so i followed the signs to Chinatown. To get there is quite easy. If youre coming into LA find your way to the front of Union Station and walk directly North. This will take you onto the main Broadway street and wherever you are on this street youll be in Chinatown as it lasts a few miles from here. Most buses align at Union Station too, with all day passes costing only $3 from most areas. I came from Santa Monica and i took a yellow downtown bus to here and made my way due nor...Read More

The Queen Mary

Attraction | "A fantastic and famous boat"

After a day of sightseeing in downtown Los Angeles I got my guidebook out and decided to go to Long Beach to see the Queen Mary, a very famous ship which is now a museum and attraction. Los Angeles has an underground system, albeit not a very good one as it doesnt extend to certain parts of the city, such as Santa Monica. However there is a direct train between Downtown LA and Long Beach.I caught the train to Long Beach from the main Union street station. I boarded the MTA blue line and the underground eventually goes overground. The journey takes about an hour and the views of the suburbs are splendid. The train also has a stop at the famous Compton area. Long Beach is the last stop and t...Read More

Any trip to Los Angeles would not be complete without a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I visited this attraction early in the day, I came from Santa Monica, which is a good area to stay in. From Santa Monica i used the yellow bus which does journeys both to Downtown LA and Hollywood. I bought a day pass for $3 which is outstanding value, however the journey is long and tiresome, stopping at every stop turns a journey you could make in half an hour into an hour and a half journey. I left from Santa Monica Main street and got off at Fairfax, then its possible to walk to the area.I had been warned in advance that Hollywood isnt all tinsel town, far from it, the areas surrounding are din...Read More

Venice City Beach

Attraction | "The most beautiful beach in a smog filled city"

Venice Beach is amazing to sum it up in one word. It is world famous having featured in a number of films and is the perfect retreat for LA folk compared to the smog filled, hectic life of the city. I have been to LA 3 times to meet friends and each time i come back to Venice Beach.Venice Beach is situated in Santa Monica, a beach town of Los Angeles. The famous, the rich, tourists and bohemian people alike flock here on a sunny day and it is well worth the experience. To get to Venice Beach, although well linked up with transport, I wont pretend it isnt difficult travelling on the city's bus system all day long. You really could do with a car here, but i have never got one and i will tell...Read More
