John and I made a return trip to this amazing capital city for the weekend. While our first day was one disaster after another, it ended on a terrific note. After a side trip to the muffler shop, we headed to Adventure Carolinas to take an intertubing trip. It turned out to be 3 hours of hello without the o! The company its self is great. It is just this intertubing trip isn’t anything like the ones found at the lazy rivers at the theme parks (imagine that). By the end were cold, tired, and ready to leave by any means possible. We were here mainly to visit the wonderful Columbia Museum of Art . This time we were here for their stunning exhibit, Imperial Spl...Read More

I had been to Cupcake when I was in Charleston and when I was searching around my visitors guide I spotted it to the list and added it to my Trip It plans. The bakery was started in 2006 by Kristin Kuhike who had moved to New York to find an adventure, but instead came back to Charleston to find her adventure. And it all happened one night over dinner and wine when she said out loud she wanted to open a cupcake bakery. And she has smelled the sweet smell of success ever since then (pun intended). Given her amazing cupcakes and the recent craze for cupcake bakeries, it is no wonder. I know they are even going to have a cupcake bakery on the new Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas! ...Read More

I was so cold and aggravated after my horrific intertubing trip that I just wanted to go to the hotel, check in, hop in a hot shower, and nap. But we both were starving at this point. Thankfully John talked me into changing into dry clothes and stopping by Tony’s before heading out to our hotel. We arrived early evening and thankfully the place wasn’t crowded. They were doing brisk business with several families already enjoying their pizza. We peruse the menu and go up to the counter and place our order. We order a small cheese pizza, drinks, and I order a piece of cheesecake. We make our way into the dining room and sit down and wait for our pizza. This dining room is n...Read More

Columbia Museum of Art has been lucky enough over the past few years to secure some amazing travel art exhibits. And this exhibit of 8 rare tapestries was no exception. They were truly beautiful and a rare treat indeed. During the later part of the Middle Ages, woven tapestries the preeminent art for royalty to display their wealth. Many of the great masters were paid more in the commissions of the tapestries than any other art form. Michelangelo made more money on his tapestries than for the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. To own one of these great works, could cost a king more than a war ship. In addition to being great works of art, they served many more purposes. They were ...Read More

The Residence Inn is located about 10 miles from downtown Columbia. I as wondering with all the Marriott properties closer to downtown, why we were way out here. Once we arrived in Columbia, I found out why. The Gamecocks were playing. But it isn’t too far out. Our room After our disastrous interubing tip, we couldn’t wait to get to our room and die! The living room/kitchen area is separate from the bedroom and bathroom. There is a work desk, couch, chairs and a TV. The kitchen has a stove, microwave, and full fridge, It also had dishes and dishwasher. They have a kitchen table and even have some microwave popcorn for you. The bedroom also has a TV an...Read More

I had wanted to go to the Rib House last time we wee in Columbia. Last time we did not have a GPS system and couldn’t find the place. This time we now had a Garmin and were able to find the place. When we arrived, the place was doing a brisk business but not crowed. Were able to get a booth right away. This place is pretty big and defiantly a sports theme going on here. There is lots of wood and sports memorable on the walls and TV’s all over the place with numerous games going on. John sits so he can watch the games, while I could care less. There are lots of bar food and BBQ staples. They have appetizers including potato skins, nachos, and onions rings. There is a whole...Read More

The company The company is a full service company offering trips and has equipment sales. They primarily sell camping and kayaking equipment but they carry other types of other outdoor activities such as cannoning, rock climbing and hiking. They have a number of classes throughout the year including kayaking, whitewater rafting, and fly fishing. They also offer a number of scheduled trips besides the tube launch. They have after dinner trips, river trips, and over night trips by canoe or kayak. They do have one trip I would love to try. They have a Spider Lilly trip in May and June when the lilies are in bloom and are by canoe or kayak. No intertubing. They ...Read More
