How could anyone visit memphis without a trip to Graceland. I did the first time but not on my return. Well im not an Elvis fan and believe me, even if youre not a fan please go here or you ll be missing out on an amazing insight into the home of the King. It really doesnt suprise me how anyone could not want to leave Memphis its a magical place. yes it hits the headlines for crime ghettos and high unemployment but take a look at the attractions and add to that the warmth of the people and the southern hospitality.I booked a trip as soon as i checked into my hotel and in 2 hours time the bus came to pick me up and off we went. I think it was about 25 bucks at the time and that included tra...Read More

Alfred's on Beale

Restaurant | "the best food ever"

Oh this restuarant is the best ever, i wish i was back there now eating that wonderful southern food they serve. The waiting staff are great friendly and you dont feel intimidated you can eat what you want be it burgers or more sophisticated. The decor is ecclectic and reminds you of old american diners but it isnt styled as such. I would recommend the catfish which is a bit of a novelty for outsiders of memphis but is simply delicious the way its deep fried. Alfreds is good for soul food so if you like deep fried okra or the like then this restuarant is for you. The prices are fantastic. To top all this off you are looking out onto the famous Beale street where you will see a lot of phoney ...Read More

If youre in memphis you got to at least see if not stay at the peabody hotel. The peabody is in the heart of the city and its a truly amazing and very historic hotel, dating back to the 19th century. The peabody is round the corner from the famous Beale street and there are lots of shops inside, some designer and some cheap to pick up bargains and typical tourist stuff. The hotel is rich, elegant with marble floors and great hotel staff. The hotel is famous for the peabody duck march and has done for several years. This is such a spectacle to see the ducks marching out of the pond and into an elevator where a conductor directs them. This spectacle happens twice a day so get there early to view th...Read More

Hotel | "Cheap motel but questionable area"

Quote:
I have been to memphis twice and refuse to pay the ridiculous prices demanded by the expensive downtown area hotels. When youre in memphis there is so much to see: Graceland, the missisippi, the civil rights museum and sun city studios. I have been in this area before but never this motel. I arrived late at night by taxi from Memphis airport. The taxi fare is about 25 dollars which is ok late at night. There are buses from the airport for a dollar fifty cents but it was rather a strange experience as it went through some questionable areas so the second time i came to Memphis i ensured that i was in a taxi. The staff are ok but when i checked in at night it was behind what seemed to be an enclose...Read More

Hotel | "Cheap and worth the price"

I read several bad reviews and horror stories about this place before i went, so i was quite pleasantly suprised when my stay turned out to be a fantastic time.Memphis has some cheap hotels but they turn out to be a long time away from the city centre. The city centre downtown area has a lot of hotels but they are expensive and youre going to spend a lot of money if your trip is of any relative long length of time. I did some surfing and found the red roof inn, downtown Memphis for 56 dollars a night, go to www.redroof.com for details. The hotel is a short distance from the Beale street area, which is the main hub of Memphis. The security was good and the receptionists polite and helpful. T...Read More
