There are two branches of this Asian themed restaurant around Sheffield – Wagamama's is a chain that operates around the UK. The first is in a small courtyard just off Leopold Street in the city centre. The other is in the Meadowhall Shopping Centre. Last Summer, I had a very nice – albeit rather quiet and uneventful - meal with friends at the branch on Leopold Street. However, for this review I will focus on the Meadowhall branch as it provided my mother and I a fantastic dining experience that we were really not experiencing from a restaurant that was part of a major chain. We were pleasantly surprised not only by the food, but also by the service. It was Christmas and I had returned hom...Read More

When I was a child, my mother and father would often take me to Sheffield on a Saturday afternoon to go shopping. Even though this was over twenty years ago, I can vividly recall looking forward to this with great relish and feeling genuinely excited waking up on a Saturday morning. Much of this excitement probably stemmed from the fact that my parents would sometimes treat me to McDonalds whilst we were there – in the north of England in the 1980s this was still something of a novelty. However, I also loved Sheffield because it was a busy and bustling shopping center that really made me think I was taking a trip to the big city. The major focus of my family’s trips to Sheffield was the Moo...Read More

The Best Way to Get Around Sheffield

Story/Tip

In 1991, Sheffield played host to the World Student Games. As part of the big event, the local council embarked on a large-scale project to improve much of the city’s infrastructure. Naturally, this involved lots of sporting venues, including a stadium, an indoor arena and an Olympic pool. These are all still in use almost twenty years. However, possibly the most lasting piece of the games construction is the transport system that was built to link venues and now ferries commuters and shoppers around the city. The centre-piece of this is the super-tram system. The tram is an above ground transport system that runs at the side of or along the surface of major roads in the city. When it was b...Read More

You will need to forgive me if this review drifts a little towards hyperbole. I cannot hide the fact that I absolutely adore Sheffield's Winter Gardens. I would certainly go as far as to argue that they are the most striking sight in the city and are topped by very few attractions anywhere in the north of England. My family home is around 30 minutes from Sheffield and whenever I return to the UK, I always ensure I spend a day in the Steel City. My first port of call is always the Winter Gardens. As lavish as my praise is, I am sure you are asking, "What exactly are the Winter Gardens?" Which is a fair question. The gardens are a large urban glasshouse, which is home to a fantastic array of ...Read More

Attraction | "Peaceful ... Not Really"

The name Peace Gardens dates back to the end of the First World War, when the picturesque area in the center of Sheffield was created to mark the end of that epic conflict. Because of this, the name is massively symbolic as thousands of men from Sheffield were killed between 1914 and 1918. However, in recent years, it has also grown to be somewhat ironic. The reason for this is quite simple. On a pleasant afternoon in Sheffield, the last thing you are likely to encounter at the gardens is Peace - they have grown to be one of the busiest and liveliest spots in the city. The term 'Garden' is actually a little misleading. The Peace Gardens are not what you would normally define as a typical 'g...Read More
