Etosha safari camp, Etosha NamibiaThis hotel was booked through the same company as all our others in Namibia, www.namibiareservations.com. It was a company we found on the internet which offered to book hotels and car hire for a small fee and helped you plan places to stay in order to accomplish seeing the things on your personal ‘must see’ list. We exchanged many emails before they sorted an itinerary for us which we approved and sent a deposit of 50% then about a month before we were due to go the other 50% was paid over the internet and then they sent us vouchers for both the car hire and the different hotels. We drove from Vingerklip to Etosha which was not such a long journey and it w...Read More

The reason we stayed here was the fact that it was 8km just outside one of the gates into Etosha which was what we had come to visit. This was a great location as we were able to drive back in easily for the evening game drive as it was closer to the park than Etosha Safari camp was.The name Mushara comes from the Purple Pod Terminalia tree, which grows around the lodge grounds and the surrounding area. We were very impressed as we arrived at the lodge as it looked lovely. I went to check in and was greeted in a friendly manner by a lady who I guess might be the owner who guided me through to the bar and reception area to be looked after by Victoria. I was of...Read More

Okonjima Main Camp, Etosha NamibiaThis accommodation was booked through the same company as all our others in Namibia, www.namibiareservations.com. We drove from Etosha National Park to Okonjima in about two and half hours as it was all on tarred roads apart from the 24km of private driveway to Okonjima Main Camp. Okonjima means "place of baboons" in Herero which is one of the local languages and it is almost half way between Windhoek, the capital city and Etosha National Park. We discovered that it was the home of the AfriCat foundation which was responsible for rescuing about 1000 wild African cats since it began in 1993.Once we arrived at main camp we were...Read More

Trip into the desert to Sossusvlei and Dead VleiWe stayed at Sossusvlei Lodge just at the gateway of the Namib Naukluft National Park and as soon as we arrived we booked to go on this half day trip which cost 585Namib dollars per person (about £55 as the conversion is the same as the ZAR - $ 11Namib =£1). We came to this lodge specifically to visit Soususvlei and the dunes and to see Dead Vlei which is in one of our many ‘Must see before you die’ books. We started from Reception at 6.45 as the gate opened at 7am. We could see the queue building up of vehicles ready to get into the park as it opened. Obviously as the desert gets very hot later in the day the earlier you can start...Read More

We had known nothing about this place until reading about it while we were in Namibia. We discovered that it was the home of the AfriCat foundation which was responsible for rescuing about 1000 wild African cats 86% of which have been released back into the wild. Vingerklip Lodge, NamibiaThis hotel was booked through the same company as all our others in Namibia, www.namibiareservations.com. We drove from Swakopmund to Vingerklip via a few things we felt we had to see whilst in Namibia with the result that our drive took us about 8 hours with stops for seeing things. Firstly we drive 70km up to see the Cape Cross Seal colony and then had to drive back along the same sand/salt road as there were no connecting roads going across country. We then called in to see the ancient rock engravings at Twylfontein and after that the Petrified Forest before finally getting to Vingerklip Lodge for about 5pm having left Swakopmund at 8am....Read More

Olive Grove Guest House, Windhoek, NamibiaThis hotel/guest house was really booked so that we could have a good night’s rest before our flight to Johannesburg, which left at 11.45am. We then had a wait at Johannesburg from 13.30 till 20.30 when our overnight flight left for Paris before we then had to rush through Charles de Gaulle airport for our flight to Birmingham early the next morning followed by a two hour drive home so we wanted to have a decent night’s sleep before that ordeal. Although Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia there is not really anything of any significance to see or do, rather a place to pass through on the way to Namibia’s highlights. The Olive Grove ...Read More

The Cape Cross Seal Colony, Near Swakopmund, NamibiaWe stayed the night in Swakopmund and had quite a long drive to Vingerklip but decided as we were so near that we would make the effort to drive up 72km further north to see the world’s largest seal breeding colony and then drive back towards Swakopmund and then inland towards Vinkerklip. We must be mad but neither of us likes to miss anything when we are on our travels and we seemed to be so close that we felt it was worth the journey. The journey from Swakopmund to the Cape Cross seal Colony was very strange as it was all along the coast on a sand /salt road and all that you could see either side was more sand. There was noth...Read More
