Hotel | "Good Room but Strange Taxi Arrangements"

Lindner Congress Hotel Frankfurt Photo, Frankfurt, Germany

I stayed at the Lindner in Frankfurt for two nights when visiting the German offices of a company I used to work for in 2007. I had almost no idea where I was as it wasn't a central area of Frankfurt and I pretty much got in and out in taxis without knowing where I was. The hotel itself was actually quite good, located as it was in an area of mixed use - residential, hotel, small shops etc.The lobby was very large with lots of seating and a very large reception area. Everything about this place is quite spacious, with wide corridors and large, rather sparse, rooms. I was pleased to get a double bed and this was dressed (as almost every German hotel bed is) with white cotton sheets and a wh...Read More

Hotel | "Do You Want to Sleep in an Ashtray?"

The Atlanta Rheinpark was chosen for a team meeting I attended in 2007 and I stayed there for 2 nights, spending the best part of two days in and around the hotel. First impressions were good because the hotel was right next to the river and there's little we Brits like more than a bit of water next to a hotel. Once inside though, things went a bit down hill. The biggest surprise was discovering that despite almost all of us having reservations for non-smoking rooms, the hotel claimed they didn't have enough such rooms. Only the first few people who arrived were giving the non-smoking option and the rest of us were told they'd open the windows and spray some air freshener around. Sorry guys...Read More

In March 2010 I was asked to attend a trade show in Hamburg and the hotel which our company had block booked was the NH Altona. I'm not sure why they chose this one as it was nowhere near the Messe and the price wasn't particularly low. When I arrived I was surprised to see that the hotel is situated right opposite one of my favourite Hamburg restaurants, a place called Graceland which served fabulous food. Sadly I'd had a sandwich on the plane and it was late when I arrived so I wasn't able to take advantage or the proximity. The hotel is nothing exceptional from the outside. It's a mid-sized modern block with little to make it stand out. Stepping inside the reception desk was t...Read More

Hotel Tryp Centro Oberhausen

Hotel | "Handy for Shops and Sports"

Quote:
The Centro in Oberhausen is a very large sports and shopping complex built in an area of the city that used to be rather industrial but is now full of sparkling new buildings. I used to work for a company who had their German office close to the Centro and if we were staying overnight, the hotel that was always booked was the Tryp Centro since it was at that time newly built, well equipped and extremely close to the office. For some reason that I never managed to find out, there was a large cow in reception. It's one of those things you just don't feel you ought to ask after you've been a couple of times, so I never did find out why she was there. The receptionists were efficient and always...Read More

Hotel | "Avoid When It's Hot"

Quote:
I used to travel regularly to Munich at least 4-6 times a year and, depending on what time our meetings were with the customer the next day, we'd either stay at the Eden Wolff or at a local hotel in Unterhaching. The Eden Wolff was supposed to be a bit of a treat as we could at least go out in the city when we stayed there but the hotel itself was often a bit of an ordeal especially in the middle of summer. It's a very old family hotel that dates back over a century. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It's directly across the street from the main railway station with the airport shuttle bus going regularly and at a much better price than a taxi. The historic centre of town can ...Read More
