Penn's Landing

Attraction | "Stroll by the Water"

After a long day, we decided to take a stroll at Penn's Landing. The swan boats and kayaks were just closing but looked like they would be fun to do with younger children. It was nice to just take a walk by the water. Afterwards, we crossed the street and headed up busy South Street where you can find all kinds of places to eat! Very crowded!

It was so hot that we needed a place to rest. This open area shopping has all kinds of food, desserts and gifts plus an area to sit. We especially liked the chocolate lab rats!

United States Mint

Attraction

Being from California, most of our statehood quarters were always made from the Denver Mint. We needed to collect some "P" quarters so although there was not any work going on - we could still walk the tour through the mint and end up in the gift store. After collecting a few quarters from the cash register, we were on our way to walk the Constitution Walk. If you like to learn about the history of our money - this would be a fun place to go.

Ok - we didn't go for the art - we went to race up the stairs like Rocky and to get a picture with the statute of Rocky. After, we walked to the park across the street to play in the fountains - I know, yuck! But, it was hot.

Pat's King of Steaks

Restaurant | "Philly Steak Finally"

One of our reasons for making a trip to the East Coast - is to try the original cheesesteak! Ok - maybe not high on our list, but Pat's was a good choice with so many to choose from. The location was not within walking distance of our hotel so we took a cab. The line was long and there didn't look like any tables but quickly, it was our turn to order and a table opened up. It's outside and it was hot - but we were in Philly in June! One suggestion would be to look at the menu before getting in line as the cooks are shouting out for you to order and you felt like you better do it quick or else! Thus, we ordered the basic and it was good but next time, would add other items to make it even more ta...Read More

Always great when you get to see a bit of history for free. The line wasn't too long but when we walked by a few hours later - there was no line. Just depends on other tours, etc. We were able to get a picture with just us by asking other tourists but do it quick as someone is always waiting for their own picture.

We arrived after midnight to our hotel and were given the Midtown II as a place still open. The menu had many items and some of us chose breakfast and some chose dinner. Service and food were very good.

Kibitz In the City

Restaurant | "Great Deli"

We wanted to try something new for lunch and we were in the middle of the Constitution Walk. We had no clue but our 19 year old son asked a local walking by with his dog and he steered us to Kibitz. We could choose a sandwich and then two sides. We all tried new things and were very happy with our choices. The deli is very small but they also have a few tables outside. The desserts looked great but the lunch filled us up with no room for dessert. If you are looking for a great deli to try - this is definitely a great choice.

After a long day walking the Constitutional Tour, we really enjoyed the variety of food choices at Jons Bar and Grill. The food was excellent and so was the service.

With so many hotels to choose, we were pleasantly surprised with our stay. It was just a few walking blocks away from the Constitution Walk and the Reading Terminal Market. The rooms were very quiet and beds were comfortable. When we needed advice, it was always exactly what we were looking for. We didn't get to to use the pool as it was always packed with students visiting Philly during this time of the year. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our family and friends.

Our time in Philadelphia was short but we knew we wanted to walk through history. It was a hot and humid day in early June so we started early. We saw a lot and enjoyed being in places where history was made. Our 17 year son wanted to go by number when seeing everything. However, my suggestion if you still have other walking to do during your trip - see everything in one area and then move on.
