Sporting opportunities are available throughout the weekend. The high school football games begin on Thursday nights and wrap up by Friday evening. The college football games are on Saturdays, and the weekend wraps up with Chief's games on Sunday. The Royal's baseball season overlaps into the fall football, so games are carefully scheduled so as not to conflict with each other. The Wizards share the same stadium as the Chief's so they definitely coordinate their playing schedules and events. Quick Tips: Ticket scalping is illegal in Missouri, but legal in Kansas. The event location defines which set of rules apply, so people cannot walk over to Kansas and scalp Chief tickets. Police...Read More

After adult softball or soccer games, groups of people head over to Johnny's. Every time I've been here, the center section is full of sports fans, usually focused on the 60" TV. A row of booths surrounds the center section on the south side (next to the windows) and on the east side. Each corner has a 36" TV and eight other televisions are scattered around, so anyone can see the TV from any seat in the restaurant. Flags for each of the Big Twelve teams hang from the ceiling and the walls are decorated with murals of sporting pictures. A bucket on the table contained a bottle of catsup (which ours was empty), and two Corona bottles filled with salt and pepper. The drink menus were laminated s...Read More

Taking advantage of the flood zone areas, the Johnson County Kansas Parks & Recreation Center, along with support from the various Kansas suburbs, have created a series of biking and hiking trails. Additionally, neighborhood development plans and business areas support the hiking trail system by having their own walking trails and even connecting into one of the four designated trails. Many of the hotels in southern Johnson County adjoin right up with the trail system, so business travelers can take a morning run or evening walk through the wooded areas. Various groups patrol the trails and there have been only a few problem incidents, but common sense still prevails. Sections of the trails mea...Read More

Kansas University is certainly not known for having any type of football program, but the reputation of its basketball program is impossible to beat. With that historical significance from the founder of James Naismith and a strong winning record, KU Basketball is a must see for any sports fan. Home games are played at Allen Field House on the University of Kansas campus, about 45 minutes directly west of Kansas City on I-70. Either the East Lawrence exit or the West Lawrence exit can be used to get to the campus. East Lawrence gives a drive through downtown Lawrence with all its shops and restaurants, plus a drive over the bridge where Roy Williams and the team spit into the Kansas River for ...Read More

With each state having state championship football teams here in the Kansas City area, high school football is a large spectator sport. Games begin on Thursday nights as there are too many teams to complete all the competitions on the weekend. However, the biggest and best games are on Friday. On the Kansas side, the Olathe school district has produced the Kansas state championship team four out of the last five years with the Olathe North team. This team has won it’s last 19 games and is on a role to another state victory this year. Players from these winning teams have earned full scholarships to many universities and I’ve enjoyed watching some of the kids play for three years and then wat...Read More

Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium

Attraction | "Royals Baseball"

Quote:
Royals play baseball in Kauffman stadium, which is considered still one of the best places to view major league baseball in the country. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained. The natural grass surface is outstanding and the fountains add ascetic as well as entertainment value. The seats are comfortable and there is not a bad seat in the stadium. The stadium is just off the intersection of two major interstates, so it’s an easy drive from the Kansas side or the Missouri side. Plus, the stadium has plenty of parking (at a cost of $5 an event). Ticket prices for Royal’s games are among the lowest in baseball and they are easy to obtain. People are always outside the stadium selling ...Read More
