The Crater of Diamond State Park was on our way from Dallas to Hot Spings in the town of Murfreesboro and whilst we used it as a stop on route we will for sure by staying longer next time and using this as a destination more than a quick visit.Murfreesboro is a tiny little town with a scattering of motels and B & Bs that we will be using in the near future. The State Park has a campsite too which was undergoing reservations but would have been too hot this time of year anywayThe State park has campsites, a swimming pool, wildlife viewing, but the focal point in The Crater of Diamond state park is of course the huge crater (37 acres) for diamond digging and they have crea...Read More

I found this Ranch on the internet whilst trying to find something a little bit "different" for our ten year anniversary. I love camping (my husband doesn’t) and so I knew if I opted for a campsite the marriage may not progress past ten years J ….so finding a cabin seemed a good compromise.Panther Valley Ranch comprises of ten accommodations. All the cabins are unique and with their own flair but every one is a suite with king bed, Jacuzzi and fireplace. As this was our anniversary I opted for "The Cabin" which was the most private of all the cabins, out by itself in the horse pasture. The prices vary a little but most cabins are $160 a night. This does not include any meals but all ...Read More

You don’t have to be staying at the Panther Valley Ranch to participate in the Steak dinner ride but as we were there for two nights it was very convenient for us. The ride is $60 dollars each and that includes the food. I don’t eat steak so I had called in advance and they happily changed out the steak for chicken for me.In our case Sam (the son) led our ride and as Melissa took off ahead to prepare the food, Sam talked us through the horses and what to expect. I’m a novice rider and in our group of eight there were total beginners as well as those comfortable in the saddle. Sam took time to match each person with the right horse suited to their needs or skills and off we went.It was a g...Read More

Back Porch Grill

Restaurant | "Disappointing"

Such a shame…this restaurant held so much promise but let us downThe Back Porch grill is right on Lake Hamilton and is not normally open on a Sunday but did so this Sunday as it was memorial weekend. I think this was their downfall, as it was unorganized and poorly staffed leading to long waits and disgruntled customers. On arriving, the entrance to Back porch grill was through a car park or modern apartments building and down an unattractive stairway into the front door but as the restaurant itself looked nice we chose to stay. The main steak grill in the center point in the restaurant so you can watch the food being cooked. We requested the back porch seating as this was on the...Read More

Hot Springs Mountain Tower

Attraction | "Great View"

Hot Springs Mountain Tower Photo, Hot Springs, Arkansas
Quote:
The Hot Springs mountain tower is right above the town of Hot springs and ideal to get a birds eye view of the town and surrounding mountainsThere is a car park at the base of the tower, but we chose to take the hike from town up the trails which wouldn’t have been too strenuous on a normal day: but on this hot and humid Sunday in May it was quite an effort! The Tower charged $6 ($3 for kids) to enter but it was well worth the price. The bottom floor is a gift shop with the usually tourist tack which we all adore. From here we boarded a glass elevator up the 65 meters to the two top floors! The upper deck is a panoramic outdoor view all around the 360 degrees view of Hot Sp...Read More

When in Rome…..right?So when in Hot springs you must experience something of the "hot springs" …and what better way than to try out the Buckstaff baths which has been up and running as a traditional Bathhouse since 1912This is not for the modest or those that like foo foo spas. Buckstaff Bathhouse is a traditional bathhouse with original fixtures. They don’t take reservations, so I was unsure we would even get in with it being Memorial weekend but on arrival they said it would just be a twenty minute wait. Here is my experience:Me and my husband both arrived and paid $55 each for the traditional bathing package. From here we said our goodbyes and he went into the men’s si...Read More
