Lakefront Brewery

Attraction | "Good Beer, Drunk Guide, Great Songs"

Lakefront Brewery Photo, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Lakefront Brewery is located in an old elevator factory near the Milwaukee river. ½ of the facility is a bar, the other the brewery. We happened to be there on St. Patrick’s day and it was PACKED. Our guide was pretty well drunk at this point in the day (late afternoon) but this just added to the amusement of the tour. Every piece of equipment looks like it was salvaged or stolen from another brewery. The guides do their best to show you the process and explain what’s going on while taking obvious pot shots at the Miller guys located on the other side of town. The tour finished with a rousing version of "We’re gonna do it" from the Lavern and Shirley show. I’m not sure if that happens wit...Read More

MillerCoors/Miller Brewery Tour

Attraction | "Bland Facilites Churn Out Bland Beers"

MillerCoors/Miller Brewery Tour Photo, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Miller brewing facility is all factory. Sure, the produce beer, but it’s still a factory and you tour it as such. Our guide was very well versed in the canned tour routine. We heard all the catch phases, the impressive statistics, and the commercial lore. It’s not his fault that they’ve trained him to be on auto pilot – it’s what large corporations do.

It wasn’t a bad visit, just dry, very dry. If you have an interest in seeing how a massive brewing operation works, it’s the tour to take. If you want to see a brewer discuss his craft, this isn’t for you.

Much like their product, it was simple, thin, and uninteresting

Attraction | "One of Wisconsin's Best Breweries"

New Glarus Brewery Photo, New Glarus, Wisconsin
Located in picturesque New Glarus, the New Glarus Brewing Company is a perfect blend of form and function. Their new brewing facility looks more like a large barn and farm building than an industrial setting. The long winding gravel driveway deposits you at the entrance to the gift shop where you can not only begin your self guided tour, but purchase any number of related items such as t-shirts, mugs, glasses, etc. The self guided tour gives you the opportunity to slowly wind your way thru the brewery, checking out each stage of the brewing process in turn. Note the high level of attention paid to even the smallest details. This is no ordinary brewery – it was very well planned out ...Read More

Pike Pub & Brewery

Restaurant | "Good Beer, Ok Food"

Pike Pub & Brewery Photo, Seattle, Washington
Not a whole lot to say. Standard pub food, nothing to amazing nor bad about it. The beer was good though coming from a strong beer prodicing state, I wasn't overly impressed with any of it thoug nothing made me want to dump it out either.

If youre in the area and need dinner, it's a good place to stop but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there.
