The Alnwick Garden

The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is a really lovely place to visit, as I discovered recently when in the area.I had decided to visit on the recommendation of a friend who had recently spent a day there, and had spent quite a while telling me about it afterwards. I was intrigued to find out more and visit here myself, as although I live in the North East and have visited many places in Northumberland, I had never visited The Alnwick Garden.~~~~~~~~~~~~~HOW TO GET THERE~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Alnwick Garden is situated just off the A1 at Alnwick in Northumberland, and is well signposted if travelling by car.Buses connect Alnwick to surrounding towns and...Read More

One of my favourite places to visit is the Lake District in Cumbria. I live an hour and a half away by car, so it is fairly easy for me to visit often. My favourite spot is Ullswater, the second largest of the lakes.I first visited Ullswater, when I was on a holiday with my school aged 11, and staying at Patterdale Hall at the southern tip of the lake. I had two school holidays there and had the opportunity to explore the lake and participate in many walks around the area.I never returned until 20 years later, when I took my own children to Ullswater, and everything was just as I remembered it. That is the beauty of most of the Lake District, it is so unspoilt and nothing change...Read More

M & D's Theme Park

Attraction | "A Great Day Out"

On a trip to Scotland a couple of years ago, we checked into the Express by Holiday Inn at Strathclyde Park and were surprised to discover there was a theme park just a few minutes walk from the hotel, which was also beside Strathclyde Loch.We enjoyed staying there so much, we have returned a few times since and always have a walk along to M & D's Theme Park. Now to call M & D's a theme park is a bit ambitious to say the least, as in no way can it compete with the likes of Alton Towers. It is much smaller than the other theme parks I have visited and therefore a more apt description would be to call it an amusement park in my opinion.M & D's is easily reached f...Read More

Archers Jersey Ice Cream Parlour

Attraction | "Hand Made Ice Cream, Fresh from the Farm!"

Quote:
A recent day out at work in a hire car saw me driving around the Durham countryside with the service users I work with. As we headed towards Darlington, I came across a brown sign just off the A68 advertising Archer's Jersey Ice Cream Parlour at New Moor Farm and decided to take a look.Driving into the farm there was a car park in a small field to the side. We were visiting on a week day but it was the Easter holidays and quite a few cars were parked up.The first thing you notice is a large cow shed and a few Jersey cows were leaning over the fence enjoying being stroked by some children. (Handwashing dispensers are placed next to the barn and also in the toilets).A short...Read More

Hotel | "Clean, Comfortable and Value for Money"

Quote:
When visiting York recently we booked a night at Express by Holiday Inn for a very reasonable £49 direct from their website. When looking for hotels, Express by Holiday Inn is usually my first port of call as I find they offer good value for money, you can often secure a reduced rate with their 'advance purchase' bookings and also have regular 'rooms from £39' promotions.Another advantage to staying at Express by Holiday Inn is that a buffet style continental breakfast in always included in the price.Express by Holiday Inn, York, is situated only 2.5 miles from York City Centre and is easily found on the A1036 to York, not far from the eastbound A64. If travelling by train...Read More
