Universal Studios Florida

Attraction | "A Fun Day!"

We took our (almost) three-year-old son to Universal Studios, and he had a great time! We spent most of our time there in the kid's section. The little guy was about 36'' tall, which meant he was big enough to ride the Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster - which he LOVED! (Who'da figured?) He went on this a total of five times! He also really enjoyed A Day in the Park with Barney - as he has some Barney videos (which, as I like to say, we did NOT push on him)! Leave plenty of time for this one. The show is less than a half hour - including pre-show - but there is a play area when you exit, with slides and a train, and and water tables - great for toddlers! We tried to go on the E...Read More

50's Prime Time Café

Restaurant | "The Most Fun Comfort Food You'll Ever Eat!"

I love this restaurant. It is all done up in 50s kitsch, and your server is like your mom or your cousin Topher or whomever. Our ''mom'' gave us homework - to think of 10 body parts that only have three letters - with no potty language! I think I came up with five and a half. The meat loaf was very tasty - and a great alternative to the usual theme park fare. I had the s'mores for dessert - also quite delicious! I think the entree was about $17. Not super cheap, but not ridiculous either.A word of warning, though - you have to have a sense of humor if you want to eat here. One time I took my dad and his new wife - and he was not amused at being told to keep his elbows off the ta...Read More

I actually used to work at Disney's Hollywood Studios when it was called the Disney-MGM Studios, and I had never eaten at the Brown Derby until this last trip.It is an elegant, spacious restaurant, and the fact that you have to use two credits to eat there keeps most of the Disney Dining Planners away. I was able to get a reservation there on the day of my visit which was a pretty busy Spring Break day.We were seated in a booth, which reminded me of the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel go to the Brown Derby and a movie star - Charles Boyer, I think - is seated next to them.I had the Cobb Salad - for which the Brown Derby is famous - and it was quite good and...Read More

Liberty Tree Tavern

Restaurant | "Solid Choice for Magic Kingdom Full Service Dining"

I eat at this restaurant every couple of years, and while the overall atmosphere and quality of service has remained the same, every time I go, the menu has completely changed since my last visit. This time, they were serving what they called a ''family style'' meal. For $29 each adult, you got ham and turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. There was a mixed green salad as an appetizer and cobbler for dessert. You had a choice of (non-alcoholic of course - it's Magic Kingdom) beverage included in that price - although a ''special'' beverage with a light-up Lightening McQueen or Tinkerbell could be purchased for an additional $6 charge. The meal was quite t...Read More

Hotel | "Good Value Near Disney"

We stayed here while my husband was in town working, after we had taken a few vacation days to visit the parks. This hotel costs less than even Disney's ''Moderate'' resorts. It is not a high-amentiy hotel, but it does offer room service and has a fairly nice pool that it shares with the Homewood Suites next door.My husband's company had some folks staying at the Hilton Garden and some at the Homewood Suites across the parking lot. We were at the Homewood Suites, which actually costs less than the Hilton Garden, and gives you free breakfast. The breakfast at HGI is $9 for adults, and $5 for children. That said, the breakfast at HGI is better and better re-stocked than at Homewood Suites - ...Read More

We stayed at this hotel on points during the vacation part of our trip. We got it on my husband's rewards points. We were also visiting friends who lived in the downtown area, and it also required a lot fewer points than hotels near the theme parks. As you may be aware, Courtyard hotels have minimal staff - but they do offer a hot breakfast in the morning, and they have a lounge available in the evening. This one also has a free shuttle to downtown - which is nice - as it is actually pretty far North of most of the things you would want to do downtown. It is within walking distance of Lake Ivanhoe, which has a walking course around it ... although it is not as close to that as I ...Read More
