On a trip to Miami, I met up with a group of friends on the way to Cuba on a humanitarian delegation. Before flying out, they needed to meet with a Cuban-American artist to view some new paintings. What better place to meet, than Miami's Cuban district of Little Havana. "Calle Ocho" as many people refer to the district, literally means 8th street, and is the main avenue in Little Havana. Filled with shops, art galleries, festive cafes and cuban restaurants, Calle Ocho is home to annual Cuban festivals which bring thousands of people to the streets. Before going to the gallery, we decided on dinner at La Carreta restaurant. Not to be confused with the Mexican restaurant chain of...Read More

Eating in South Beach can be a wonderful culinary experience. Choosing a place to eat among all the famous high-end restaurants can be daunting and exciting all at the same time for a foodie. But for those, like us, who were more interested in a fun, relaxed, and more budget-friendly place to dine, there are also plenty of choices. Although we love to splurge on a gourmet night-out every now and then, during a quick trip to Miami (mainly for business), we decided instead to find a good, healthy, unique place for dinner, that wasn't too pricey, yet still offered the atmosphere and location of the bustling South Beach. After reading about several places on SoBe, we thought of strolling throu...Read More

No trip to Miami is complete without a visit to the famous South Beach (SoBe). This history area of Miami's sealine is known for its iconic art deco architecture as well as the world-renowned nightlife. Many people say that when you've been to (and partied in) South Beach, no other place measures up, but even if the nightlife isn't for you...it's still worth a daytime stroll through this part of the city that never stops. We spent only a short week in the city during a business trip (lengthened for a bit of vacation), and so the "SoBe" nightlife wasn't really on the agenda, but I really was looking forward to at least exploring the area one afternoon and evening. We started on Lincoln Road ...Read More

During a night out exploring the South Beach area of Miami, we happened upon a great area of the art district. On the bustling Lincoln Road, where many people gather to shop, view art, and eat, we found several great places to explore. Not familiar with this area at all, but recommended to it for a good place to eat dinner, we wandered around a bit before deciding on a restaurant, and during that time just enjoyed people-watching and checking out the buildings along the road.Lincoln Road is set up for pedestrians, although cars are allowed, the sidewalks are huge and reminded me of a smaller version of the Las Ramblas Avenue in Barcelona. Cafes and shops line the sidelines and the streets ...Read More

During a business trip to Miami, we decided to make a small vacation out of it as we hadn't really explored this city before hand. Living only several hours up the Atlantic coast, Miami still seems like a world of it's own, and many Floridians say that it doesn't even feel like part of the state, and instead an extension of the Cuban, Haitian, and other cultures more south of this colorful metropolis. As we had some time to use in a timeshare program, we chose the Solara Surfside Resort to spend a few nights. Located in Surfside Beach (a beach just north of South beach and part of the greater Miami/Miami Beach area), this resort is just outside of the crazy busyness, but still close enough ...Read More
