It's an odd tip to make about a place, but if you blink, you might miss the heart of Sedona. Part of this is probably due to the road works which have made a real mess of the place and most of your concentration does seem to be devoted to the fact that you're trying to see exactly where on the road you should go. And quite obviously, any attention that is left will almost certainly be focused on the red rock hills surrounding you. However - in all this distraction, it can be surprisingly easy to miss the best bits of Sedona, if you've never been there before. Driving in on Interstate 17 from Phoenix, you will drive through some beautiful areas, stucco housing and roads...Read More

Ok - so the 'chamber of commerce' doesn't sound like the highlight of any trip - let alone one to one of the most beautiful places in the North American desert. But I found that a stop here on the way into Sedona was a surprisingly valuable one, and one that I would recommend any first time visitor to the area make. For starters, especially if you are new to travelling in the desert, there is a lot of very relevant, and very valuable bits of information you can quickly pick up inside from either the staff or looking around and the relevant information. There is information on water needs for hiking and other excursions (a thing that is easily taken for granted if you aren't used to...Read More

It must be said, if there is one thing that Sedona has in ample supply, it is art galleries. For a place with such breathtaking splendor in the views outside - it has a lot of focus on some equally impressive ones inside. From virtually the moment you roll into the little town of Sedona in central Arizona, driving slowly of course (either because you are gaping at the towering red rocks around you, or because the road works are appalling for such a beautiful little place and you are surrounded by cones and road signs that make the trip less than smooth. Not to mention that for some bizarre reason they have instituted small, British style round-abouts here - one of the most ill-considered...Read More

If you are driving North from Phoenix or the surrounding areas heading towards Sedona - this is a perfect little stop off and yet another surprise that Arizona had to offer. It was something we hadn't planned on before we headed up, but spotted it in the tourist guide and decided it was at a good distance for us to stretch our legs and have a look around the sight while we were at it. This turned out to be a perfect stopping place, in Camp Verde Arizona a few hours north of Phoenix. However I should mention that if you are planning a single day trip to Sedona - then bypass this at this point. It was one of my favourite little sights in our time in the area, and I highly recom...Read More

For anyone who has never been to Arizona before, you are in for a spectacular treat. Often thought of as a 'tourist' destination because of the The Grand Canyon and other landmarks - the state is also often disregarded as an excellent stop off for travellers. However, this state turned (and surprisingly my first visit to it) turned out to be one of the highest points in a round the world trip we took that lasted almost two years and covered some of the most highly visited places in the world. And even after all of that, we arrived in Arizona (like most, I feel - expecting to see a few sights and move on) so in awe that we made a point of coming back for another two weeks before we left ...Read More
