Restaurant | "A Beer List? Yes Really"

Quote:
Den Dyver is a restaurant recommended to us by my sister's boyfriend where we went for our anniversary dinner. It is special as since opening in 1992 it has a reputation as a high quality establishment for food and drink. There is a "carte de jour" menu which has a choice of 3/4/5 courses each accompanied by a suitable beer. We paid €40 per head for 5 courses. One of the unique features of this restaurant is the "beer list" - most restaurants have wine lists but the equivalent here is for beer. You can, if you prefer have wine though. BUT when in Bruges we decided to stick to the beer. It is certainly the first restaurant I have been to where they suggest a suitable beer (from h...Read More

Attraction | "Learn about (and Taste) Chocolate"

The "Choco-story" museum is a sister museum to the chip museum in central Bruges. For cheaper entrance fees buy a joint ticket to both (or you could even buy a ticket to the "Lamp Museum" too if you have lots of time on your hands!)Cost of entrance just to the choco-story is €6 for adults. The aim of the museum is to tell the story of the transformation of chocolate from humble cocoa bean to some of the tastiest food known to man (thus speaks a total chocaholic!!!). For someone, like me who loves their chocolate I was really interested in this. The musuem is in a tall thin building so has narrow steps to climb throughout the three floor exhibition. If you are in a w...Read More

Beer is probably one of the four things that you think of when visiting Belgium - the others being of course (chips and mayonnaise, chocolate and belgium waffles) so would a trip to Belgium be complete without visiting a brewery - I dont think so!The brewery is centrally located and is built around a court yard. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day so had lunch in the cafe there before our tour. The food is superb - very fresh and cooked on site. Highly recommended - especially if you wash it down with a glass of reasonably priced beer €3 for a large beer. The tour cost €5 each but lasted an hour and included a free glass of beer or a soft drink - so is really good value. The t...Read More

This is a great little European hotel - I would definitely recommend it for a city break in this wonderful city!We recently stayed here for my first wedding anniversary. We booked through Last Minute.com and got a package including first class Eurostar, and three nights bed and breakfast here for £190 each which was great value. We did pay the extra £6 for a canal view room and as it is right on the canal this is well worth it! The hotel is centrally located. It is walkable from the train station and about 5 minutes from the main square. This saves you a fortune in very expensive taxis! The hotel has been recently done up so is really smart - we had a lovely downstairs right on ...Read More

A trip to Belgium would not be complete without eating some gorgeous chips and mayo so where better to combine some culture with aforementioned snack but the Chip Museum. This museum is a recent addition to the city and promises to give the visitor the history of the humble chip, plus some tips on how to make them! Included in your entrance fee you receive a portion of chips and mayo too so how could this be bad?Possibly one of the best features of this museum is the giant model of a portion of chips which is outside in the street. Immediately you are tempted to take cheesy tourist photos of you pretending to eat the chips!Inside the museum is light and airy - recent...Read More
