Merchant Adventurers Hall

The Merchant Adventurer's Hall was built over 650 years ago and is a grade 1 listed building. Situated in the middle of bustling historic York, seeing this building adds a bit of peace and awe as you explore the city.I was really excited to see this building on my recent visit to York, as when I saw the photos online I thought it looked amazing! Looking at the building you can just imagine it as it was back when it was first built. It was built between 1357 and 1361 and it's one of the largest buildings in Britain of its kind. There are three rooms in the hall serving the three functions of a medieval guild; business and social in the Great Hall, charitable in the Undercroft and religi...Read More

I discovered Designer Outlet in York mostly by accident. We were staying just outside of York and the nearest Park and Ride into York was at a place called 'Designer Outlet.' When we got there, we realised it was a large outlet shopping mall, and it's actually very large inside and will certainly pass a good couple of hours!McArthur Glen have a few outlets across the country (and even in Europe!) but the one at York is the only one I have been to. It has an extremely large car park outside, as it's also the Park and Ride and the few times I have been, the car park is busy, but it's so large you will always get a space! There are disabled parking spaces nearer to the entrance of the out...Read More

I'd heard a lot of hype around Betty's Tea Room but despite having been to York a few times now, I had never actually been. I decided to give it a go when I went on a quiet mid-week day in January, as in the summer the queues are usually winding round the corner, but the day I visited the queue was thankfully just inside the entrance. We were handed menu's whilst queueing and as we neared the front we were asked if we would prefer to sit upstairs or downstairs. We opted for downstairs, and after going down a tiny staircase realised this meant more waiting, standing about on the stairs! After another 5 minutes or so, we were finally escorted over to a table.Betty's isn't reall...Read More

York Castle museum turned out to be a nice surprise for us. Nestled near Clifford's Tower we went in one afternoon on a weekday. There were no queues and entrance was only £7.50, and there was the option to gift aid this.I loved going around this museum. They had rooms set up from different periods of time, for example a typical York cottage in the late 1800's or an old Victorian room of a more upper class family. They had gone into a lot of detail with these rooms, even adding sound effects to the cottage room to make it sound windy and cold outside and trying to imagine if the room was warm enough with the small stove. There was also a large section going through the vario...Read More

Griffon Forest Lodges are just on the outskirts of York, only a short 10 minute drive away from Monks Cross. They are set in the heart of 100 acres of woodland, and you can use the lodges as a relaxing break, or a base for venturing into York and the surrounding area.Turning into Griffon Forest you drive along a drive with speed bumps. This drive feels like it goes on forever, and does take about 5-10 minutes to get along it because of all the speed bumps! On the way we did see some squirrels though and this happened the majority of the time we drove along the drive way.Check in isn't until 4pm but we got there early around 2pm. I went to reception and said I knew we were early...Read More
