Quote: Intended to be a mixed purpose trip of youth soccer (work) and sled dog races (play), the Wisconsin weather threw me a curve making the dog races not possible. I did enjoy Central Wisconsin's warmth and hospitality however, during the business portion of my agenda.

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel back in early December, also as part of a business/soccer trip. The front desk manager was very helpful in assuring that I received their non-profit room rate, which was about $15 less per night than my best discount rate (AARP I think). At $70 per night, this was a very nice lodging choice.Rooms are spacious and the furnishings very comfortable. During both of my visits I had a king room which also included a comfy oversized chair with ottoman. All rooms have free wi-fi and the bathrooms are stocked with nice toiletries. This particular location (they have several throughout the Midwest) has a small meeting room on the second floo...Read More

For my first meeting in Wausau, the local soccer folks chose the Red Eye Brewing Company located in the downtown area of Wausau. What a perfect place to meet and enjoy discussions about youth soccer! It was a Friday evening, and when I arrived at 6:30pm the place was really hoppin'. The main entrance area was filled with standing room only space. It was loud with conversation as people seemed to be enjoying their TGIF time in the bar. I was immediately greeted by the group I was meeting, and had the first hard choice of the evening . . . what beer was I going to experiment with. Not really familiar with beers other than I like them more on the light side (both in ...Read More

Having enjoyed my meal here on my most recent visit to Wausau, I am now disappointed that I didn't venture down Business 51(N) the three or four miles during my first visit to this area last month! The Log Cabin Family Style Restaurant looks like just about any other restaurant you may see in any other community you visit. Inside, however, you know you are in Wisconsin's Northwoods region. Snowshoes, wooden fish, and other "woodsy" things hang on the walls throughout. As you enter, you will see their bakery case filled with homemade goodies. It was tough to not stop and get a sugar buzz just from inhaling. The pies, cookies, breakfast pastries and muffins all looked fabulous!...Read More

When staying at the Stoney Creek Inn during my first trip in December, it was a cold and snowy night and I didn't really want to venture too far for supper. The front desk clerk suggested I go to Green Mill Restaurant which happened to be across the street adjacent to the Holiday Inn.While I could have opted for carry-out, I decided to dine-in. I have enjoyed meals at other Green Mill Restaurants, particularly while living in Iowa. They are dependable for offering good food at a good price. During past visits to Green Mill, I have enjoyed Friday fish fries, steak sandwiches and perhaps one of my favorites . . . the pan fried walleye. For this visit, however, I ordered the mushroom &am...Read More

If you look forward to winter and snow, you will want to make the trip up to Granite Peak Ski Area on Rib Mountain. Located in Wausau, many say it is well worth the three hour drive from Milwaukee to enjoy the best skiing in the state. Green Bay is about 90 minutes away and Madison is about two hours.Granite Mountain features over 70 runs with lifts that can accommodate two or four; this resort can accommodate skiers of all skill level. If you enter the area from Wisconsin’s Rib Mountain State Park, you will not be able to access the lifts and without a ski lift parka tag, you maybe asked to vacate the slopes. I saw several young people trying to sneak onto the course from the backside o...Read More
