Every Saturday hundreds of people gather throughout the morning to shop, browse, and mingle at the Old City Farmer's Market. Grown throughout the years, this market is now one of the popular stops for shoppers around the entire area. From food and crafts, to clothing and pottery, you can find many ideas for your pantry or gift-giving.Because we like to support local farmers and artisans, this market is one of our must-stops each weekend. Especially around the holidays as well, we make sure to try and buy as many locally-made gifts as possible. Plus, on the days when the weather is really nice (which is most days here in sunny Florida), we love to take any guests we may have visiting,...Read More

One spring weekend in St. Augustine we visited some friends who live on the Intracoastal (the waterway which flows between inlets and on the land-side of Anastasia Island). As they live on the water, they have water "toys" and so we pushed out 3 kayaks and 1 canoe (which my husband and I shared). After crossing to the west side of the waterway at high tide, being careful not to disturb any of the oyster beds which lie just a couple feet below the surface, we went under a bridge and then kept rowing towards a marsh area.Since it was high tide, we were hoping to find a path through the reeds and grass to connect us with the protected Moses Creek. Luckily we glided quite effortlessly through ...Read More

When I think of a beautiful park, full of wildlife and various landscapes, I think of Washington Oaks. This lovely state park is a popular place just south of St. Augustine which is beautiful year round. I've attended several weddings here, each in a different section of the park, as well as local festival events.Located of the coastal road of A1A, Washington Oaks is officially located in Palm Coast (St. Augustine's neighbor to the south), but still a short and gorgeous drive down the "beachfront avenue". Only marked by a small wooden state park sign, this entrance doesn't give many clues as to the glorious piece of land behind it. Pay the small entrance fee at the drive-by ticketing boot...Read More

As soon as one drives east on the oceanfront avenue "Beach A1A" and reaches the city of St. Augustine Beach, the St. Johns County Ocean Pier is one of the first places you'll see. Located in the 2-mile stretch of this quaint seaside town, this pier and the area surrounding it offer many lovely things that visitors can enjoy. The main star of this area is the pier itself. Protruding over the north end of the beach, this fishing pier is a popular destination for fishers throughout the year. The information and tourist office is where you purchase tickets and fishing passes and also where you gain access to the pier walkway. Bait, tackle, ice and refreshments are available in the center as wel...Read More

Looking for an interesting and fun peek into some local St. Augustine culture in an active outdoor environment? Then head to the Wednesday Farmer's Market at the St. Augustine Beach pier and pavilion area. Consistently taking place now for just over a couple of years, this market initially wasn't as well known as the larger Saturday market just a mile away at the St. Augustine Amphitheater overshadowed its popularity. But now, it's a very popular market for locals and tourists alike and continues to grow!If you drive by the area on a Wednesday morning, you can't miss the crowds of vendor tents, shoppers and cars. Since the market takes place in the pier parking lot, many of the spaces are ...Read More
