Quote:
Father's day was coming near, and I was running out of options of what to do with my daughter. I thought that I could take her to an amusement park, but with the recession affecting even my wallet, I decided to find somewhere cheaper. One day, I was listening to the radio and heard about how people were going to museum because of the fun factor and the affordability to take their kids. Then it hit me- Why not take my daughter to the Palm Springs Air Museum?ArrivalWe arrived to the museum on a super hot day. Temperatures in Palm Springs on a June day would reach above 100 degree, and that is around 10 am. I decided to take my daughter to check out the planes that were parked outside g...Read More

My family and I decided to go to Palm Desert to do something fun as a family. While heading down to the restaurant that we were planning to eat, we decided to stop at a the Palm Desert Park.ExperienceSet Up- This park is wonderfully placed in the center of Palm Desert. The park is surrounded with an IMAX theater as well as a regular theater as well as a variety selections of restaurants to chekc out. Across the park is the Civic Center where the city police is stationed. When we were there, we saw that the Civic Center was being used to celebrate a sweet-16 party. The park is beautifully designed. My first impression of the park was how colorful and imaginative the park was. Thi...Read More

Attraction | "What Is a Joshua Tree?"

Joshua Tree National Park Photo, Twentynine Palms, California
Quote:
If you had to look up this answer through Yahoo or Google, then you need to visit Joshua Tree National Park.EXPERIENCEDriving- There are many ways to enter the park. You can walk or bike, but the most efficient way to get around to see most of Joshua Tree is by car. I went with my family to visit this park by car. To get inside the park, I paid $15 per car for seven-consecutive visit days. Even though I brought the ticket, my wife decided that she was going to visit this park more often while we were here, so we decided to upgrade to the $30 per car for the entire year.Tip- If you are a lover of national parks, then I would suggest to buy the $80 per car for a full year. ...Read More

It was my last day in California. I was with my daughter, who was very hungry. We were staying in Palm Desert waiting for my father-in-law to fly into Palm Springs Airport the next day. We were staying in the Holiday Express Inn and ready to find something delicious. I remember that the Cheesecake Factory was along the way when we were arriving to our hotel. I decided that it was time to go there with my daughter. SettingsThe Cheesecake Factory is well-placed in Rancho Mirage. Along Highway 111, it sits in the a small, yet high-class mall area called The River. The Cheesecake Factory is surrounded with a man-made river. The area is build like you had to have a lot of money to come vi...Read More

I am in the military. I had been staying in the desert for almost nine months doing my necessary training for my job. I was stationed at 29 Palms, but I was about to move out because I had completed my training to go to a new station. Before I left California, my wife decided that my daughter and I should stay down in the Palm Desert, so we could pick up my stepfather from the airport in Palm Springs. He was going to help us move across America. My wife decided that my daughter and I should stay at the Holiday Inn Express for one night. My daughter and I went down there and stayed for the night. This is the story of our visit....ArrivalWhen we arrived at the hotel, it was very late. ...Read More

Restaurant | "Exotic Food? Try Somewhere Else!"

The Rib Company Photo, Yucca Valley, California
Quote:
When I first heard about The Rib Company, I heard that it was good to eat, yet expensive to eat there. I was told that this place would be worth the money to check out. Now, I have to admit that I was not going there to eat any BBQ there because I am biased toward North Carolina BBQ (the best in the universe). I heard that this restaurant had exotic items such as kangaroo and alligator. I have had many exotic animals such as goats and ducks, so I was really excited to try the exotic items. It was at this restaurant that I would get my first bite of these meats.Price of Food???Before I get into the main event, which is talking about the food, let me talk about the price. Restaurant | "Fire + Meat = Mmmmm......"

Picanha Restaurant Photo, Palm Desert, California
Quote:
It was a hot Sunday afternoon, and I realized that it was time for lunch for my family. My wife and I had passed by Picanha many times, always seeing the sign for that $14.95 special brunch deal. I figured that we should take advantage of this deal. What Is This Restaurant About? This restaurant is a Brazilian restaurant that I consider a high-class buffet. You come in the restaurant and a server will sit you down. You are given a circle card- one side red, one side green. If you want food, you turn the card green and get servers that give you different meats. When you want to stop, you flip the card red. The have a buffet line where you can get up from your seat and get salad, fruits,...Read More

Imagine walking in the middle of a desert. With no water in sight and walking for days trying to find a river, pond, or even a cool spot to savor. You look and look only seeing mirage after mirage of what could be an oasis. Well, trying to find a great diner on route 62 is like that, but have no fear because I have found that oasis to savor. That oasis would be Route 62 Old Timer Diner. Is This a True Diner?I have been to many diners. Some are fakes trying to just get your money while some are the real deal. This diner is the real deal when you first visit. The restaurant is a true diner with its own attitude and feel to it. When my family and I first came in, I was shocked that this ...Read More

Big Mama's Soul Food

Restaurant | "When West Meets Southern BBQ"

Big Mama's Soul Food Photo, Cathedral City, California
Quote:
I am a proud North Carolinian who LOVES BBQ. When I saw this restaurant on the internet, I decided to check how good this so-called "soul-food restaurant" would handle my expectation of BBQ.(I have to say that I am a BBQ snob and have high standards for delicious BBQ).ExperienceService- It was great. The second we entered the restaurant, we were kindly greeted by our waitress. My family and I were given a choice to sit where we felt like sitting. We decided to sit outside since it was a beautiful, sunny day. Our waitress took our orders and in under 20 minutes, our food was served.Food- We ordered a lot of food. I got pulled pork with mac-and-cheese and cornbread. W...Read More

Delicious, colorful, fun, mouthwatering, and exotic. If these words are what you look for in an any Asian restaurant, then you need to visit Le Basil in Palm Desert, California.EXPERIENCEFood- The food is the best thing and the main reason you should come visit. This restaurant serves sublime Vietnamese/Thai food. My family and I decided to eat here after watching Anthony Bourdain eating Vietnamese food in Vietnam on television. My wife and I decided to start with some Vietnamese freshrolls (kind of like sushi but with a Vietnamese style to it) with peanut sauce to start as an appetizer. The second I put these freshrolls in my mouth, I could easily taste the zest of the flavor. The ...Read More

If you even plan on making a trip to Joshua Tree, avoid this restaurant at all cost.EXPERIENCEMy Taste- Now, I love to eat, especially in great restaurants; I would even call myself a restaurant snob. I love to eat at great quality restaurants that are reasonably priced, if not cheap. This restaurant did not fit my taste at all.Décor- When my family and I decided to eat here, we were not expecting a five-star restaurant. This restaurant was small and overly-cramped. The restaurant was so small that it was difficult to pull out a chair without hitting another chair. I could only imagine another person sitting in a chair eating only to be rudely hit by my chair because I wanted t...Read More

Restaurant | "A Restaurant For Hippies"

Crossroads Photo, Joshua Tree National Park, California
Quote:
If you are looking for a restaurant that would more than likely to support Greenpeace, then this restaurant is for you.EXPERIENCEEating Dinner- My family decided to eat here while driving through Joshua Tree. When we stepped in this restaurant, already I could tell that this place had a "hippy-feel" to it. The smell of the restaurant made me feel like I wanted to join PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). The restaurant did not have that "1960's hippy" feel but a more "conventional hippy feel". You could tell that this restaurant welcomed these people: Hikers, rock climbers, college students, environmentalists, and all the sort. In fact, my family stuck out like a sore ...Read More
