I'm generally not too harsh a critic, but this meal demands a bit of toughness on several points. First off, BB Kings is billed as a club and evening entertainment venue, but they also depend on their restaurant business to pay the bills. Based on our one experience, they need to focus a bit more on the execution of their meal service at least as evidenced by this dining experience. We arrived a bit early for the prescribed dinner hour of 4:00pm but were reassured by the hostess and our server that ordering dinner at 3:30pm would not be an issue if we wanted something a bit more substantial than their lunch items.Coming in out of the cold 40 degree weather, David and his mom b...Read More

Well it is New Year's Eve and this group of old fogies is not planning a night out on the town, so we ended our vacation in Nashville with dinner at Neely's Bar-B-Que. The primary reason we decided to do Neely's was because we researched beef ribs on the internet and found this may be the only place this side of the Mississippi that has BEEF ribs and not just pork ribs. You see, beef ribs are important because since our move from Ames, IA back in 2007, we have not found a rib joint with beef ribs so that we'd have bones for Miss Heidi. Well David did his part and ate ribs so that we'd have bones to take home to the dog. Thankfully, their food was good for humans too.David had...Read More

There are two Old Hickory Grill restaurants; one inside the Opryland Hotel and this one inside the Music City Sheraton about 10 minutes away. For our first morning in town, it was the perfect location for breakfast before going to the grocery store for morning meal fixings for the rest of our week's stay in our timeshare. They offer a limited ala carte menu for breakfast, but at $9.95 to $12.95 for most meals, you'll do better with their nice breakfast buffet at $13.95 including hot and cold items, fresh juice and coffee, tea and/or milk. The buffet offerings include fresh fruit (pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberries), pastries and muffins, an assortment of breads for...Read More

If you go out Music Valley Drive from the front entrance to Gaylord's Opryland Hotel, you will drive past several motels and chain restaurants. Avoid the urge to stop, and push on about a mile to the Santa Fe Cattle Company. We arrived at round 5:00pm so pretty much ahead of the local dinner crowd. Our server was immediately at our table offering beverages to go along with the obligatory bucket of peanuts in the shell. Yes, this is one of those places where you can take your kids and be sorry they learn it's OK to throw the hulls on the floor! There is no way to go to a place with "cattle" in their name and not eat beef, although you can opt for chicken, fish, shrimp or pork i...Read More

Restaurant | "Decent Burger in the Late Afternoon"

We arrived at Wildhorse Saloon after our day down in whisky country a bit early for dinner so we had to choose from their limited lunch menu of sandwiches (pulled pork, bbq beef, chicken or hamburger). This was another dining disappointment as we called on our way back in from Lynchburg so as to time our arrival for dinner. We were assured we could order off "the full menu" and not a limited lunch menu when we arrived. Oh well . . . $12 burgers would have to do.For $12, you have your choice of a variety of cheeses and toppings. Mom did the bacon & cheddar, while David selected the mushroom & swiss. For me; just a plain hamburger with their "special hamburger sauce" (mayo with ...Read More
