The Veerswamy is advertised as London’s oldest Indian restaurant (not the first which was Gaylord’s) having opened in 1926. We booked through TopTable and confirmation from the restaurant came through within a couple of hours. We chose to visit at Sunday lunchtime and booked for 1.00pm. As a result we were among the first in the restaurant which is perhaps why, at first, we felt a bit overwhelmed by the number of staff fussing round us. Although the restaurant is on Regent Street (the Piccadilly Circus end) the rather modest entrance is on Swallow Street. The lobby is tiny and can get crowded as people hang their coats. On entering we were met with a wall of chatter and laughter, everyone sounded like they w...Read More

Hotel | "Ibis Euston - Look Out for Deals"

Although I am usually to be heard extolling the virtues of hostels and small private hotels, I have of late found myself increasingly turning to Accor hotels. Admittedly I do look at their cheaper chains first but I have managed to get myself some reasonable rates at some of their mid-priced hotels too. The same rooms can be available at several different rates and differ according to certain conditions. You’ll get the best rate if you are prepared to pay fully in advance and risk losing your payment if you cancel. This is how we managed to pay a, not unreasonable, rate of £63 for a double room at Ibis Euston on a Saturday in late November. The standard rate advertised outside the hotel is...Read More
