Restaurant | "A Chic Place Across the River"

One of our favorite restaurants in Florence during our stay there was that of Il Rifrullo. Located in the Oltrarno area of the city (across the river from the center), this place offers a wonderful bar, great dining room, and beautiful terrace area. The prices are moderate and the atmosphere always a good mix. If you're looking for a fun place away from the main drag of restaurants mentioned in guidebooks, walk over to San Niccolo neighborhood to Il Rifrullo. They're even open on Sundays for brunch, and is a popular place for locals in the morning, or an aperativo in the evenings. There are numerous events that are hosted here, which are on their website calendar, including wine tastings an...Read More

Restaurant | "Where the Locals Enjoy Aperitivo"

Quote:
There are many great places around Florence to enjoy an aperitivo, and many that are trendy and places to see and be seen. Caffe' Sant' Ambrogio isn't one of these places. Instead, it's a quite plain cafe that wouldn't be described as trendy, but it's definitely a popular place to meet, and is always full of locals. And that's why it's one of my favorite places to go.On the corner in the Piazza San't Ambrogio across from the main church, this cafe would be easy to overlook...that is, until aperitivo time where patrons crowd the sidewalks and square. Mostly locals is who you'll see here, as it's not one of the popular places for tourists or foreign students. The ambiance is laid back and si...Read More

Restaurant | "Enjoy a Meal in a Dusty Cellar"

A place where you might feel as you've discovered a secret spot amidst the tourist rush in the center of Florence, is the small eatery of Fiaschetteria Nuvoli. If you're in the mood for some wine, and a plate full of tasty bites to tide you over, and the atmosphere of a dusty Tuscan wine cellar, definitely stop at this quaint place.Locate in an alley only a block from the Duomo, when you're inside you won't feel like you're so close to the mass of tourists at all, as many people walk right past this place without noticing it. We were introduced to this place by a Florentine friend of ours, and we enjoyed visiting a few times for a light meal. It's especially a good stop if you're hungry (o...Read More

Rex Cafè

Attraction | "Jazzy and Nautical Cafe"

Quote:
Open over 15 years, Rex Cafe has become a staple in the aperitivo "must-go" list. Located down the quiet Via Fiesolana, this bar is nice place to happen upon. A fun atmosphere, good drink list, live music and unending snacks are what Rex has to offer. We headed to Rex after hearing about it from a few locals. The glowing blue sign outside looked like an old jazz club, but inside is an eccentric mix of funky mosaics to maritime decor. The dim lighting gives the feel of a laid-back club with some sophistication. Usually on several evenings per week there are live music concerts which start around 10pm. I've never heard of any cover fee being charged, and if there's not a live band, the recor...Read More

For an amazing aperitivo with different themed food everynight, Sei Divino is the place to go. A fabulous wine bar and art gallery, this classy atmosphere is one of the best pre-dinner visits in town.Located just doors down from the Ognissanti church and only a block from the Arno River, Sei Divino is just that: divine. They have an amazing selection of regional wines which you can sample and a full bar to satisfy any thirst. It's a lovely place to sit back and enjoy a large pour of the famous Brunello. Even take home a bottle as a souvenir of your trip to Italy.Starting around 7pm nightly, they offer an extensive aperitivo for their patrons. One of the best things about the ap...Read More
