Walking up Hoang Van Thiu to go see a nearby unique Catholic Church, I literally ran into Tu Hanh Nha Hang Chay restaurant to escape a down pour. It is a 2 story colonial style building with large windows and several rooms of tables even though it was not really a large dining area and it looked very inviting even though there was no late lunch crowd there. The high ceilings allow for a good air flow and there were plants and flowers scattered about that really made the place look unique and welcoming. I really like the spiral stair case and the layout inside – and even as I was admiring this – I noticed that the place filled up very quickly. One of those things about eating at a vegetarian re...Read More

One of those things about travelling around everywhere, you often meet some of the greatest people in places you would never expect. Returning by flight to HCMC after my first trip to Dalat, I was walking out to get a cab to the hotel and saw that one of the girls there in line for a cab had a UNV of Hawaii backpack. I asked her if she went to UH, and found out that she was doing the Masters of Business program that was offered by UH in HCMC! We split a cab and ended up becoming great friends as we discussed all the things we both loved about Oahu – where she had gotten to go to as well.A year later, and I was once more headed to Dalat, but this time around Phuong and her friends were goi...Read More

I booked my reservation through Asian Travel Mate in HCMC for the hotel and flight based on the recommendations of friends in Dalat as of where to stay. The staff at ATM also had a high recommendation for the Saigon Dalat Hotel and when the travel agent and your friends both are telling you this is a great place to stay – figure that you are going to have a great experience! The Saigon Dalat Hotel is a 4 star hotel with a 160 luxurious and comfortable rooms, 4 on site restaurants, 3 bars and cafes and a glassed in swimming pool (that is not heated) and a spa. The rooms run in the following categories: deluxe room, superior room, presidential suite, executive suite, junior suite and penthouse. All...Read More

The Blue Moon hotel has an outdoor barbeque buffet in its courtyard in the evenings. The courtyard can be entered either from the street or from the bottom floor of the hotel. I saw the set up for it going on as I returned from the walking around town in the rain, and one of the waitresses had asked if I planned on eating there that night after they opened up. I decided to give it a try and went out about 7pm and was seated by the waitress I had met. The tables and chairs were aligned in a pretty nice set up on the pave stones, and there were two other tables of people eating there. The food was set up so that there was a section that had noodle soup , a selection of meats and vegetables for g...Read More

Hotel | "Good Rates for the Off Season"

I booked a room at the Blue Moon through the travel agent in Saigon at a very good rate. The location was the reason for my staying at the hotel, and for that reason it proved to be a very good choice. Located on up a small hill on a road that windingly leads to the Dalat Market area, the Blue Moon enjoys a great central location for exploring Dalat with but a 2 minute walk to the lake and 10 minutes to the farmers market. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby, and you are also located very close to the golf course and to the Dalat Floor Gardens. The hotel itself is one that is trying to be a star higher than it is, and because I was there in the off season, when it is both cold and raini...Read More
