I had read reviews on this and other sites about this hotel, so I was a little leery when we arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice hotel and the staff we dealt with were courteous and helpful.

Our room was not large, but it was just me and my husband, and we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, so it was perfect for us.

There's no pool at this hotel, so if that's one of the amenities you're looking for, just skip this one.

The major pluses for this hotel are that it's very centrally located. It's right in the middle between two different T stops (about 1 1/2 - 2 blocks to get to each one), there's a pharmacy around the corner and the Hotel 140 (also around the corner) has a fairly good full-size breakfast in their cafe.

We didn't partake in the continental breakfast offered by the hotel, because my husband prefers something more substantial than pastries and coffee. Although, honestly, we didn't even take a look to see what was offered.

This is an older hotel, so if you're looking for something really fancy, this probably isn't it. But for the area, it was a very good bargain and it was comfortable.

About the only downside I experienced was the size of the bathroom. It is small, but it was always clean and we always had clean towels.

If you're looking for a bargain hotel centrally located in the heart of Boston, don't overlook the John Hancock because of some of the other reviews. We had a good experience and I would probably choose this hotel again, as long as I'm not taking a child.

Day 1

When we got off the plane and checked in at our hotel, we were really hungry. We decided to head to Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market and see what was there in the way of food. We had some family friends who had recommended Pizzeria Regina, specifically the one in Quincy Market. So, that's where we headed. You can spend at least a half day in this area. It's chock full of shops and Quincy Market is one huge restaurant row. There's so much to choose from and no national chain restaurants like Taco Bell or McDonald's, which was refreshing. We ate at Pizzeria Regina and then had a beer at Cheers. We didn't spend a lot of time touring the stores this day, but we spent some more time here on the morning of Day 3 of our trip and did some shopping then. There's a Build-A-Bear Workshop (we took home Wally the Green Monster for our daughter) and a very large souvenir shop.
