Eggs Up Grill

Restaurant | "Best Breakfast in Portland"

I have to admit it, I am a breakfast person. There is no meal that I enjoy more. It is amazing with the simplicity of the basic breakfast of eggs and toast, how bad it can be at some restaurants. Who would have thought that there were that many ways to make breakfast potatoes bad.Eggs up does not suffer from this lack of quality when it comes to breakfast. They have a very basic menu with some interesting additions on their weekend menu. The building that they are located in has gone through several incarnation from its early days as a hot dog stand to previous stints as a breakfast joint. The interior is small and can on the weekends be very crowded and lines have been known to extend out...Read More

Max Amore is one of the eight Max Restaurant Group restaurants in Connecticut. It is located in Glastonbury CT at Somerset Square a small and very upscale shopping mall. This is one of my favorite restaurants, especially for Sunday Brunch. The décor is very pretty. The kitchen is open concept and you can enter the dining room from both sides of the building. On the outside there is much more parking but once in a while you might get lucky and be able to park on the inside street. There are very modern colored hanging lights and just a very upbeat vibe. Service is always great here no matter how busy it is. The staff is happy, you can just tell that they enjoy working here and they aim to m...Read More

Angelico's Boat House

Restaurant | "Dining on the Lake"

The location of this restaurant is a piece of East Hampton history. For many years it was operated as the Hathaway Inne and Restaurant. It had gone through several incarnations in recent years but Angelico’s seems to have made it work. The location opposite Lake Pocotopaug couldn’t be any better. They have several locations now but this one is the one we go to. They have lunch 10 months of the year, brunch and dinner. In the warm months they offer outdoor dining which given the location overlooking the lake is very popular. In the summer you can even pre-book a guided boat tour of the lake which will include dinner. We have eaten here several times and tried a few different th...Read More

Rein's Deli

Restaurant | "Great New York Style Deli"

If you happen to be in Vernon Ct which is east of Hartford and have a craving for a New York style Jewish Deli then Rein's is the perfect place to eat. They are an institution in this area and the "go to" place for anyone wanting a great sandwich or meal. They are not Kosher but you can still have lots of very traditional Jewish deli items. We stopped here most recently on our way back from Boston with our friends Cindy and Jeff. They are open 7 days a week so we knew that even in the evening on a Sunday we were going to be able to relax and nosh.I love their corned beef; you can get it marbled with fat or extra lean. I always go for the extra lean and add a side of coleslaw. ...Read More

Tavern at the Armory

Ever since it opened in 2003, I have been meaning to go to eat at the Tavern at the Armory. Two years ago, I won a gift certificate for two free lunches, which was an added incentive. Finally, the second weekend of September I was able to coordinate a lunch date with my friend Cindy and we went off to enjoy what we hoped was a great lunch. The Armory is a historic building in Middletown Ct. It was once a private home that was turned 90 degrees and added on to so that it forms a building of two wings with a center connection. An additional building was added to the back when it became the Inn at Middletown. For 70 years before that, it was the National Guard Armory. You enter into...Read More
