Honeymoon in Languedoc

A September 2009 trip to Carcassonne by Lublamai

We were on a fairly limited budget after having just paid for our wedding in the Czech republic. Funded from the presents of our guests we booked a last minute flight to the medieval city.

Restaurant | "A New Concept of Restauration"

Inside the Cote Ferme
We went to this restaurant as a treat for my wife’s birthday and it did not disappoint, this was the best eating experience we had during our visit to Carcassonne. The restaurant feels light and fresh and exhibits its wine selection as a single back lit wall of wine bottles. The menu we went for was the basic menu with a tapas style selection of the entrées and a beautifully presented main all arranged on a single plate with little compartments. The food isn't just good looking though as each mouth full is tasty and delicious.

The waiter who served us was brilliant and paid a lot of attention to the details of the meal. The music was great just perfect to add the right atmosphere and all the food is locally sourced and available to buy in the restaurants sister shop next door.

The Cote Ferme is a little more pricy than some of the other restaurants in the area but it is worth it, if you like the sound of the restaurant make sure you book in advance as they only have five tables.

Maison du CassouletBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "It Does What It Says on the Tin"

The restaurant is in a good location and considering its location could have a considerably larger price tag. This is the Carcassonne branch of the Castelnaudary based chain the food is good but the range is extremely limited serving only Cassoulet and Confit du Canard. This is not such a hardship of the company seeing as this is the traditional food of the area, but I feel that they are missing something but not doing any variations on the theme.

The restaurant looks good and is clean and the court yard was warm which is saying something in La Cite after the sun goes down.

Millett GuesthouseBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "It's Like Coming Home"

Millett's Guesthouse is a beautiful house perfectly located an easy 5 minutes walk from the Carcasonne train station and 20 minutes from the Cite. It is run by a lovely couple who made us feel at home and gave us suggestions of things to visit and what going on.

You can come and go when ever you like and they make sure that you have breakfast every morning before you go out.

We had chosen to stay in Carcassonne for seven days, which was probably a little too long for the Cite alone but the guesthouses location close to the station made it very easy to get to Toulouse and Narbonne.
