Urban Mo's

Restaurant | "Fabulous Burgers in Hillcrest"

Quote:
We ventured north of downtown to the gay neighborhood of Hillcrest for lunch. Urban Mo's is known for its burgers, and I highly recommend them. I had the Mediterranean Burger and my friends had salads - all were quite tasty. The restaurant has an energetic atmosphere even in the middle of the day. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine

Restaurant | "All Right Food, Horrible Service"

Quote:
We went to Roy's for dinner on our second evening in San Diego with a reservation at 8pm. The appetizer was good - it was a sampler with a few items. The main course - some kind of fish - was dry and salty. For dessert we each had the chocolate lava cake, which was the highlight of the meal. Our waitress rushed us through the meal, asking during our main course if we'd like to cash out with her since her shift was ending or if we'd like to cash out with her replacement. We hadn't even ordered dessert yet, so we opted for the other waitress. The meal came to over $100, and wasn't worth it giving the horrible service and over-salted food.

California State of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park

Attraction | "Fun on Paper...Tourist Trap in Reality"

Entrance to the Park Photo - California State of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, San Diego, California
Quote:
I was really excited to visit the Old Town State Park, so we boarded the train and took to 20 minutes ride. When we entered the park we realized right away that it was a major tourist trap - block after block of overpriced Mexican restaurants and bars. The only redeeming aspect of the park is the main square with some recreated buildings. I'd stay away from the park, unless you're in San Diego for a long stay - it's not worth the time if you're only visiting for a short time.

La Jolla Beach

Attraction | "La Jolla Day Trip"

The Climb Down Commences Photo - La Jolla Beach, San Diego, California
Quote:
Wanting to escape the city for a few hours, we took off via car 30 miles north of San Diego to La Jolla. After driving through neighborhood after neighborhood of enormous, beautiful mansions we found a bath between two homes at the intersection of La Jolla Farms Road and Blackgold Road leading down a steep hill to a secluded stretch of sand. Once you take the ten minute trek down the hill you come upon the vast Pacific Ocean. Bring some food and have a picnic, and spend a few hours just relaxing!

It's quite a steep trek back up to your car, so wear some comfy sneakers.

Oceanaire Seafood Room

Restaurant | "Best Seafood Meal in San Diego!"

Quote:
After walking around for nearly an hour trying to find a place to eat dinner, we stumbled across Oceanaire. We did not have a reservation so we had a drink at the bar while waiting - no more than 20 minutes, and it was a Friday evening. All the fish is fresh and a majority of it is local. The waiters are extremely knowledgeable, not only in reference to the menu, but the fish - answering questions about the taste, where it comes from, and what wines compliment the best. I had the grouper and my dining mate had the shark steak - both were amazing! For dessert we split the fresh baked chocolate chip cookie and a tall glass of milk, mmmmmm. We had such a great experience that we went back the next ...Read More

San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina

Hotel | "Great Hotel"

Quote:
I stayed at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina for five nights in a bay facing room complete with a balcony. The hotel is divided into two towers with a two story entrance lobby connecting them. Behind the lobby, flanked by the towers, is a large pool, hot tub, and a couple outdoor bars (you can charge drinks to your room, and they're fairly cheap). There was plenty of seating around the pool throughout the day. Another plus is the abundance of cosy seating around the hotel for lounging.
