The famous waterfalls were formed 10,000 yrs ago and are considered a natural wonder. Each minute the Niagara River spills 40 milliion gallons of water 180 feet downward across a ragged ledge nearly two-thirds of a mile wide. Niagra Falls actually comprise several spectacular waterfalls. The Horse Falls on the Canadian side rise 167 ft with a brink that measures 2,500 wide. The American Falls rising some 176 ft above a gorge with a 1,100 ft wide brink. The Bridal Veil Falls, smallest of the three, is named for its resemblance to the train of a bridal veil.(see pictures I took). Quick Tips: We didn't cross to Canadian side, but if you have the time, please do. You get a majestic view of the wa...Read More

Overlooking the breathtaking Upper Rapids and just steps away from the Falls, is Niagara's most distinctive historic structure. This Inn has Olde English atmosphere, with wood-burning fireplaces, built in 1923. Reserve and ask for a table with view of falls.

Note picture is from Maid of the Mist/Niagara Falls. You can Hop aboard the Maid of the Mist for an adventurous 30-minute boast ride that will take you as close to the Falls as you dare to get. Tours boarding daily from May thru October at the base of the Observation Tower. The Erie Canal and Lockport Locks Cruise Boat had daily cruises. On weekends the lines are longer. The Grand Lady Cruise Boat for lunch or dinner was sold out, when we were here. There is a vivid multicolor Falls illumination in the evening. I have seen Niagara in the winter, less crowded, and equally as beautiful with the snow covered and ice chill in the air. Note: My original pictures attached shot Aug 14, 2001

Deep in the darkened gorge, with the brilliantly laser-illuminated cataract before you, you will feel yourself totally swept up by the awesome power and beguiling mystery that is the Falls. They provide Yellow rain gear and plan to get soaked after the Sunset. Goat Island is across the American Papids Bridge, approx 2 miles from the Observation Tower. The shopping malls I would pass. Nothing exciting and NO major store names here. Of course the magnets, cups, and souvenirs with NIAGARA FALLS are plentiful throughout the area. The drive into Niagara Falls from Highway 90 was filled with stop signs and traffic jams. Allow extra time once you get off the major highways. Also remember the exchange rate on the Canadian side. YOU get much more for your dollar. All the major hotels are on both USA and Canadian sides. The Sheraton for those NOT on a budget offers the best views on Niagara. Make reservations on any hotels within the falls area. There are plenty of small, unknown hotels as you drive from highway 80 to NF. Of course we were driving in ...Read More
