Axel Munthe was a doctor who loved the island and dreamed of having the home with the best view on all of Capri. He lived at San Michele, a gorgeous home in Anacapri, which indeed has a spectacular view of the bay. He wrote a celebrated book, "The Story of San Michele," which has been translated into several languages. ~~~ Dr. Munthe has since died, but he left his home to the town as a tourist attraction. You can tour his home, which includes a museum on his life and work. The home itself is filled with gorgeous objets d'art, fountains, and antiques.
