Mostar was named after its Old Bridge "Stari Most" It is such a historic city, dating back for hundreds of years. The Old Town has ancient cobblestone streets winding around and up and down the hills. Fortresses like stone buildings hug both sides of the Neretva River. There are lots of little tourist shops selling souvenirs, including some hand made copper ware, cheap quality trinkets and fabulous rugs. There is enough to entice even the most uninterested shopper. The terrible pastThis beautiful ancient city is so worn torn though. The war is over now for about 12 years but this area was so bombed and so destroyed, the people here are still a little shell-shocked. The younger ones told us ...Read More

This is such an incredible place for its ambiance. It is a 300+-year-old stone building with a view of the OLD BRIDGE from its terrace seats. The food was just OK, the trout was a good pick but I can't recommend the risotto . It was however a 5 star for its location alone.
Like everything in this area it was inexpensive.

Hostel Miran near the BridgeThey really look after you here. Its family run and they treat you more like a houseguest. It is not fancy but it is spotless and Miran met us at the bus. As soon as we arrived he offered us to make tea or us a cold drink. Free Internet. We were able to do some laundry here and hang in on the clothesline!!Miran's Mom told us 5 grenades hit the house during the war , one killing her Dad. There is a huge crack in the courtyard floor that marks the spot. Sitting in her quiet courtyard as she told the story it was hard to imagine the violence that once was Mostar. We had a double room and shared a washroom with a few other quests. We hig...Read More

Bus to Mostar
We took the bus from Sarajevo. It took 2.5 hours and there are buses leaving every 1.5 hours. Cost $12.00 (make sure you have 1KM for the toilet and 1KM for the bag you want to store underneath the bus!! It’s a very scenic drive. The bus was comfortable!! The Mostar terminal was near the OLD TOWN center and is met by locals offering rooms for the night.
