Whether you eat before you go out for an evening on the town or not, you must try a Toasty while you are at The Elbow. Anyone who remembers the sandwich toaster/press that used to be sold on late night infomercials will especially appreciate it. They take bread, put in some cheese, maybe ham or turkey, tomato and possibly some 'salad' (read: lettuce) and put the whole thing in a press. It cooks it until it is melty good perfection, and some of the machines even seal the edges. Cheap and filling.

A little pub with a lot of local color. The barkeeps are very friendly, and the locals are more than happy to buy you a drink in exchange for some chatter. Warning: If you tell an Irishman that you are a lightweight, he will want to see it for himself. Be sure to return the favor, and buy a round for your new-found drinking buddies!

This natural wonder is a volcanic rock formation on the northern coast of Northern Ireland. Well worth the hike down to the sea to check it out, or you can pay extra for the bus. The legend of Finn McCool, giant and all around fabulous guy, tells that the causeway was built by another giant in Scotland, and Finn, determined to scare the intruder away, dressed himself as an infant. The thinking: look how big this kid is, image his daddy. Supposedly it worked, and the enemy ran back across the causeway, destroying it behind him. Be sure and check out the giant's boot and other interesting rock formations while you are down there.

During the summer of '96 there was a bit of unrest in Northern Ireland. It seems that the natives are not too keen on British rule. Well, some of them anyway. In an effort to keep the peace, police were making a substantial physical appearance in the streets. There were water tanks on street corners and police strolling about with very large, very impressive guns. We didn't take pictures of them, but we did get directions to Pizza Hut from one of them. Nice chap.
