Upon learning that Sarah was graduating we looked up lodgings in the area, we had wanted to stay at the Eureka KOA again but they were full. It was hard to find a room but we finally secured one at the Rodeway Inn for $166 a night!

A few days prior I checked their website and saw a cheaper rate. I called to get the cheaper rate and was told that it was a queen and not a king, I said this wasn't a problem. Then the owner/manager offered to give us $10 off, instead of the $40 I was asking for; then I was told that the room I wanted was for the handicapped and that he tried to keep that open until a few days before, I pointed out we were coming in three days and then I was rudely asked if I was handicapped! I had had enough and said I would just cancel and re-book online at which point he said he'd give us the room.

I checked online the next day and found my reservation had not been switched so I called Choice Hotels 1-800 number and was given a rate $2 more than I saw online and the nice lady put this into the computer in case the owner/manager went back on his word. Good thing! Upon check-in I was not given the handicapped room or the rate I was promised. A few days later I complained through Choice Hotels and got an e-mail back from the Inn owner/manager riddled with misspellings in which he did not apologize and said that he did not want to give me the room because he was "trying to give the handicapped a break".

Aside from the total craziness that was the owner/manager, there was a free breakfast with cereal, oatmeal, coffee, juice and bread/bagels. Strangely there was no tea although there was hot water with which to make your Quaker Oats. The rooms were ancient, there was some weird contraption of a hair dryer in our room (although not all rooms rate a hair dryer), the curtains did not close all the way so there was that annoying sliver of light, plus there was this strange beeping noise coming from outside at all hours of the day.

At their regular $70 a night you might want to risk staying there, but as there are so many nicer places to stay why would you? Read Less
