By Saturday night we were ready to walk out and have a little bit of a change. The restaurant in the hotel was okay but we were getting a little claustrophobic and decided we wanted to get out, walk around and see what there was near the hotel. Across the street and down one of the side streets was Athens Restaurant. It didn’t look like much on the outside and we did debate whether it was where we wanted to go. We didn’t want to have to take the car out of the parking garage that made Athens a lot more attractive. The restaurant was not too busy when we arrived and we were seated quickly. The menu offers a lot of choices and frankly neither of us is very knowledgeable when it co...Read More

Kathy and I were in Manchester New Hampshire for the bi-yearly New England Genealogy Conference and when Sunday rolled around we wanted to find somewhere to have a nice brunch. I did my usual Internet research and one name kept coming up, Richard’s Bistro. Richard’s is the only five star restaurant in Manchester and a quick look at the online menu led me to believe that we would enjoy dining here. The restaurant was quite close to the hotel, not close enough to walk with my bad knee but close. We found parking in a lot nearby and walked up. There was a sign in front of the restaurant that stated that brunch was $10 that seemed like a good price. We had no idea what a good price it really w...Read More

If you are staying at the Radisson on Elm Street in Manchester you will find that there are plenty of opportunities to walk out and see the town. Elm Street has much the look of an old fashioned Main Street, the type that you would have found in almost any city in New England fifty years ago. Like many main streets today there are some store fronts that are empty but there is still a look of vitality to this area. Lots of small restaurants dot the landscape Italian, Chinese and the every present chains. Tucked between the former Cafe Europe which appears to be undergoing renovation and the Italian Restaurant Piccola is a small and unique store caked Heart and Hand. There is quite a large h...Read More

When you are thinking of places to go for a great Italian meal, Manchester New Hampshire is not a place that automatically comes to mind. Surprisingly there are a lot of Italian choices available. If you are staying at the Radisson for a convention or just staying there for whatever reason, it is an easy walk down Elm Street to Piccola Ristorante. Parking in downtown Manchester can be problematic. On Elm Street itself there are pay and display machines if you can find a spot, and it is parallel parking so it is somewhat limited. Piccolo has a nondescript store front, if you aren’t looking for it; it isn’t going to jump out at you.The dining room is large and there are ba...Read More

It is that time again for me and my friends, the bi-yearly NERGC conference. This is the New England Regional Genealogy Conference. Over the years we have had conferences in Providence RI, Portland Me., North Falmouth, Ma and Hartford Ct. in 2009 the conference was scheduled for Manchester NH. Cindy has always been my travel buddy on these excursions and for this one my friend Kathy planned to join us. The Radisson Hotel in Manchester is adjacent to the conference center so that is where we booked our room. I knew that we need to have a room that would allow three people to be comfortable so I booked my room on the phone with the hotel. This hotel offers several dif...Read More
