Hotels on the Big Island 2009

Quote: This gorgeous cliff side hotel is located off of Highway 19 in Honomu on the makai (ocean side) of the road. There is a small sign on the side of the road with a yellow lei on it that reads Palms Cliff House. The lovely grounds are filled with palms and other tropical plants. There are different types of rooms on the two floors of the inn. The top row is upstairs and air-conditioned. The bottom row is downstairs and not air-conditioned. It usually gets booked solid during the Merrie Monarch Festival (a popular hula festival held in Hilo during Spring). The views from the rooms are spectacular because all rooms overlook the ocean and Pohakumanu Bay. We stayed in the Paradise Dreams suite which we really enjoyed especially because it had a large marble jacuzzi. We also really liked the large lanai that overlooks the ocean. Luckily there was a nice breeze during our stay so we didn't have to deal with the vog. Rates for the suite that we stayed in start at $200 per night. I would recommend staying at this inn if you like to stay at a peaceful, private hotel without the large crowds. Note that you will have to drive a distance to dine at a nice restaurant.
