Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid Best of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Four Day Stay @ the Crowne Plaza Resort"

Hotel's lobby
After researching quite a bit on hotels in Lake Placid and considering factors such as price, location, and amenities, this hotel seemed like an excellent choice on paper and it did not disappoint. Its located in the heart of the town, on a small hill which is just off of the main street connecting the town. This location is perfect, its away from the busy streets and its elevation gives it isolation. If you walk down the hill then you are walking distance of the many shops, restaurants and the Olympic training center facility.

The price paid was around $270 per night (includes breakfast for 2) which was a last minute deal and during the holiday season so while it seems high, its actually not considering a lot of the hotel in its class went for the same amount. The rooms have beautiful views, over looking the frozen lakes and the gorgeous snow covered Adirondack mountains. There is a balcony with almost every room so you can enjoy all the natural scenary while drinking your coffee, as I did. The room also came with a jacuzzi which was suppose to be extra but given that this hotel was packed during this time of the year, they probably handed out rooms as they were available so that worked out to our advantage. The king size bed was soft and LCD monitor were nice touches, the room was nice and better then I expected.

The amenities of the hotel included a restaurant, a golf course which would be awesome during the summer, a gym and a swimming pool. The swimming pool was heated and also had a jacuzzi which were worth using. The breakfast was continental and had every thing in it, from corned beef has to yogurt, bagels and every thing else you need before heading out for the activities. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful even with so many people checking in and out so service was definitely excellent. The staff at the restaurant were also excellent, as was the breakfast so I was impressed with the hotel and I think it was worth spending the money given it was a last minute plan.

I would recommend this place to any one who wants to be near the center of the town and for one who wants to stay at a higher class hotel then your typical days inn. I had a good time and would definitely stay here again.

Veranda RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Dinner at the Veranda Restaurant."

Dinner at the Veranda restaurant
This restaurant is conveniently located right next to the Crowne hotel we stayed at so we decided to try it out one of the nights for dinner. The restaurant is quite small and the inside decor is pretty nice, it also has an outside deck for seating which during the summer I can imagine being a hit with tourists who want to wine and dine while enjoying the views. This restaurant's decor seemed to aim at giving an upscale appearance but I didnt consider it to be upscale, I would just say it looked cozy and appealing especially with a fireplace and glass windows over looking the frozen lake.

The dishes here are expensive, an appetizer such as calamari or even a salad ranges from $10 to $15 while an entree such as steak or a chicken dish will be $20 to $30. So the food is not cheap and they dont have much of a variety either especially if you are a vegetarian. I tried the lamb chop special which was a whopping $40, it was cooked perfectly and tasted pretty good. I enjoyed it but I am not sure if its worth $40, maybe $25 to $30. The steak here is very good, probably the best dish thats served and for $30, I think its your best bet especially since its juicy and cooked to perfection.

The service here was good, I wouldnt say it was the best but the staff did attend to all of our needs and our food was delivered in a timely manner. The only complaint was that after we got our food, the staff sort of forgot about us especially since we needed water but once they got our attention, they took care of that. There seems to be no dress code as we were allowed with our jeans and sneakers so no need to dress to impress in this restaurant, at least in the winter time any way.

I had a good time at this restaurant, the food tasted pretty well, the service was good and the location along with its views were excellent. The only gripe I have is with the prices, you can easily spend $100 for two here if you order appetizers, entrees and even wine. I probably wouldn't dine here again but it was a good restaurant to try in this beautiful town.
