We hadn't been to Knott's Berry Farm in years! Now the kids are tall enough to ride all the great rides. Here's our fun-filled day!

A 240 foot drop
The best ride ever is Ghostrider. It's a wooden roller coaster that goes so fast you feel out of control. The first drop is a doozy! The kids loved Supreme Scream, a drop from 254 feet. We all enjoyed Montezooma's Revenge and Bigfoot rapids. My son and I went on Perilous Plunge, which drops you from 115 feet at a 75 degree angle. We got soaked. What a great ride! The water/laser/music show at night is worth waiting for. It was a lot of fun, with great music to sing along to, amazing laser lights not only over the lake where the main part of the show is, but over your head. There was a group of teens who obviously had seen the show before and sang and danced to all the songs. Some examples: "Do the Time Warp" from Rocky Horror, "What is Love" from the Saturday Night Live Skit, "Hand Jive" from Grease, and the finale was "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood.

Quick Tips:

We almost wished we had bought a multi-day pass just so we could go back and ride Ghostrider again the next day!

Best Way To Get Around:

Stay at the Radisson resort next door and you can walk right to the park and/or to the Marketplace.

Radisson Resort at Knott's Berry Farm

Radisson was offering rooms for $89 per night. When I called the 800 number, they indicated they only had 1 room still available for the nights I wanted, and it had a king size bed and was a smoking room. I wanted 2 beds (for me and my 3 kids), non-smoking. They wouldn''t work with me. So I went to the internet site and tried. Still no luck. I called the hotel directly. They first told me the same thing. I told them I was not willing to pay $179 for the room I wanted. She then gave me the room I wanted at the $89 rate. Persistence pays!

I was a little nervous checking in, but I did indeed get the 2 queen bed, non-smoking room. It is a newly remodeled hotel and it''s very nice. The room was clean and I was gratified to see that the maids had bedspreads in their laundry bags along with sheets, towels and blankets. I always worry about how clean the bedspreads are! We were able to check in early, park in the hotel parking lot for free, then walk to Knott''s. There was a laundry facility at the hotel and there was no waiting. The soap dispensing machine was broken and took my money, but they gave me laundry soap at the front desk with no hassle. We didn''t use the pool, but it was nice and big. Not much shade out there, though. There was a lifeguard on duty during limited hours. There were pay-per-view movies available and a good selection of regular channels on t.v. There was a nice exercise room and a small video game room.

Virginia's

Virginia's is one of our all-time favorites. We plan to eat there almost every time we visit southern California. Their specialty is fried chicken, but they also serve chicken other ways. There are a few non-chicken items, like mini corn dogs for the kids. My kids especially love the chicken noodle soup and the chicken pot pie. Their biscuits are to die for! Your meal includes the biscuits, soup or a warm rhubarb thing (can you tell I've never ordered that?!), salad, chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, a vegetable and dessert. There is a selection of drinks including a blackberry punch that's pretty good. The fried chicken is a specialty for a reason. It's delicious!

Restaurant

We had high hopes for this place and were crushed. Service was terrible, with the waitress keeping us waiting for 10 minutes without even stopping at our table to welcome us. No one brought us water. No one brought us utensils until we asked (twice!) after the salad arrived! The mozzarella sticks were awful. We sent it back and they at least took that off our bill. The fetuccini alfredo was tasty. My capellini pomodori was pretty good, but not what I expected. Usually the pomodori is not saucy, as this was. When the waitress came to take away my plate, she asked if I was finished with my "spaghetti". The bread in the basket was cold. I asked for some olive oil to dip the bread in and she never brought it. Mind you, the restaurant was not crowded and it looked like our waitress only had 3 tables to serve! I'm sorry I cannot recommend this restaurant at all!
