Viewing the "Cowtaloupe" may make you hungry for breakfast, so stop at the nearby First Watch. This restaurant is known for it's breakfasts and brunches, even though they also offer lunch items. Sunday is a very busy morning as people gather outside the restaurant waiting for a table. Arriving before 9am greatly reduces the amount of time before you can be seated at a table. The restaurant is clean and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly. Hot coffee is served immediately and has been freshly brewed each time we've eaten here. My favorite food here are the omelets, with a close second of the biscuits and gravy. The fruit crepes are excellent, and are more suited for my da...Read More

After several nice business lunches at Copelands, I was truly disappointed with our family's dinner experience. We had early reservations for a Friday night and entered into the near-empty restaurant. The hostess placed us at a table in the middle of the walkway just up the stairs from the entrance, even though much better tables were available. She acted surprised when we asked for a better table. The waitress was more absent than present, and her assistance was far from helpful. My daughter ordered a tea, only to have the waitress snap at her for being underage. The menu did not clearly separate the adult drinks from the non-alcoholic offerings. Embarrassed, my daughter made another...Read More

The pennies saved from eating at Mr. Goodcents could have been used to decorate the "Moo-la, Moo-la" cow. Mr. Goodcents is a sub and pasta restaurant that started in Lenexa Kansas (suburb of Kansas City). These restaurants offer fresh sandwiches and tasty pasta for an inexpensive price. Each sandwich is individually made to order with the opportunity to select your meat, cheeses, bread, and sandwich fixings. The full sandwich is 12 inches long and the half sandwich is 6 inches. The amount of meat is more than plenty and the freshly sliced cheese is generously provided. Sandwich fixings range include lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, sprouts, salt & pepper, vinegar & oil, and differen...Read More

Saint Joseph/Saint Benedict Catholic Church is a historical site representing the blending of multiple cultures. As people settled in the Kansas City area, arriving from their European countries, each community had their own parish priest. Ornate churches were built in the style of the "old country". Located near the Croatian area known as Strawberry Hill, Saint Joseph started as one of these churches for a Polish Community. The stained glass windows have dedications in Polish, and the saints that adorn the altar are those important to the Polish people. With this shortage of priests, church parishes were consolidated, thus the blending of Saint Benedict's church with Saint Joseph. The Hispanic c...Read More

Put on some good walking shoes and begin the cow parade. Most of the herds of cows are together at a location, while some cows are scattered in a quiet place all by themselves. We started at the southern end, in Johnson County Kansas, at the Community College. As with most of the cow displays, there is sufficient parking so we could leave our car and examine these cows up close. While in Johnson County, we visited the lone cow over in Corporate Woods, saw the group in Shawnee Mission Park and then headed over to Prairie Village. We followed Shawnee Mission parkway into the Country Club Plaza and spent the most time there. (Good shoes are important here!) From there we traveled north to the...Read More

In an area that used to be a cow pasture is now a beautiful family oriented course with numerous shady treed areas. Golfers can select two of the three courses to create their 18 hole course. The Westlinks 9 hole layout does require a cart. The cart ride can be exciting for the younger crowd as the cart path goes underneath the intersection of Quiveria and 127th!

Golfers can call 341-8100 to reserve a tee time up to 7 days in advance. This is advisable, especially during the summer months as the course is full of parents with their sons and daughters. The course is perfect for the young golfer to learn the game.
