Attraction | "Climb the Walls for Awesome Photos!"

Looking down on Onofriou's Ftn.
Since it was rainy, cold, and slippery in the morning, we saved climbing the old walls until the afternoon. Little did we know that the path along the wall is one-way...and it’s a l-o-n-g way around. About halfway around, with many steps still to climb, we began to wonder if we’d make it around in time to get back to the ship before it sailed! We made it & the climb was worth it.

I Got FreshBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "I Got Fresh in Croatia"

i got fresh here in this place
We found this little place about 8 alleyways on the left past the Monastery, then up on the right. We found several places on this trip offering smoothies and I was hungry for one. Just as we entered, the girl running the place left on an errand, so we went back later. It was worth the wait. The place is bright and cheery, with a large screen tv in one area, fun music playing, and a small lending library in one corner. You are welcome to go behind the bar and mix up your own smoothie. If they like it, they’ll put it on the menu and name it after you! Sandwiches and wraps are also available. I wanted one of their t-shirts, but they were sold out. They say, "I got FRESH in Croatia." Maybe next time, as I do hope to return one day.

Katedrala (Cathedral)Best of IgoUgo

Attraction | "A Treasury of Treasures"

We timed our visit to the Cathedral and its Treasury
perfectly, arriving in time to go into the Treasury alone,
before a throng of tourists in a guided tour arrived.
The altarpiece in the Cathedral was by Titian.
No photos were allowed of the altarpiece nor treasury.

Step What???Best of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

shiny, stainless, step toilet
I heard several women complain about the step toilet here in the Old Town, but this is by far the cleanest and nicest step toilet I’ve ever seen. In parts of Asia, for example, a step toilet may just be a hole in the ground in a dark open room
lit by candlelight. If you’re lucky, there might be some crude markings for where to put your feet. No toilet paper, just a ladle & a bucket of dirty water, both for rinsing yourself and "flushing". So THIS step toilet was a step up!

Orlando's ColumnBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Here Ye, Here Ye!"

Bell Tower
Just before reaching the bell tower, to the right stands an orator’s tower known as Orlando’s Column. This is where the town crier would give the news of the day to anxiously awaiting townsfolk.

Attraction | "See an Ancient Pharmacy in Use!"

Old Pharmacy
When you arrive in Dubrovnik's Old Town through Pile Gate, just past the Large Onofriou's Fountain, turn immediately to the left to enter the 14th-century Franciscan Monastery. Within in the walls of the Monastery is the oldest Pharmacy in Europe that is still in use. You may see customers inside getting prescriptions filled in this ancient pharmacy.
