Holy Hannah!

Story/Tip

When we got to Ocean City, it was bright and sunny. We picked up the keys to our rental, drove to the house and unpacked the car. As we brought in the last load, it started to sprinkle. It wasn't long before it was blowing and pounding rain -- tropical storm Hannah had arrived in Ocean City not long after we did.Our first day of vacation was spent watching the radar on The Weather Channel, waiting to see a break in the clouds. I tried to take a few pictures of the strong wind's effect on the trees, but could never seem to capture the moments when they were horribly deformed. The rains finally cleared up around 6:30pm. After we ate some dinner, we decided to go see what the o...Read More

Katina's Gyro Restaurant

Restaurant | "Mmmmm.... Felafel!"

Quote:
Katina's staff was very friendly despite having a lot of customers (both seated and picking up take-out). They all seemed to thrive on the flurry of activity. I took it as a very good sign that there was this much business after the summer season was over.We had hummus as an appetizer. It was a well blended (aka - not grainy), perfectly spiced chickpea hummus. But there weren't enough pieces of pita. (This is mostly my fault. I "dip and spread" instead of "globbing" the hummus onto the pita pieces. Most restaurants don't provide enough pita for my hummus needs.)We then had the felafel sandwich. Felafel balls, lettuce, tomato, and onion in a pita and then rolled up in alum...Read More

Szechwan Garden

Restaurant | "Unimpressed"

Quote:
It was about 1:30pm when we walked into Szechwan Garden. We were escorted to a table by the window - across the room from the only other seated party, which I appreciated. (I hate sitting right next to the only other people in an empty restaurant.) The decor was simple, but not spare. It didn't feel like a take-out joint that would rather you weren't sitting at one of the tables they begrudgingly provide. We waited quite a while to be waited on, despite the fact that the other party was already eating when we arrived. We waited even longer to get our drinks (just a pot of hot tea) and crunchy noodle things. The duck sauce was runny, watery, and mostly tasteless. Our friend exclaimed t...Read More
