The beach was right outside the hotel so before dinner we headed straight out for a stroll. It was great; the sound of the surf, the sand on our toes. We followed it up the next day with an early morning walk and watched the birds darting up and down.

The beaches are clean and safe. It was off seaon so it was not very crowded.

We didn't take our car on the beach, but would consider it if we came on a day trip. Parking on the beach is $5, but can be closed based on conditions.

If you come to Ormond Beach for a day trip, you can find public parking all along the beach. If you are looking for the action and night life you are about three miles north of Daytona Beach.

This little restaurant was recommened by the hotel. It is situated just across the road so we walked.

It is a small restaurant with maybe a dozen tables. The decor and staff gave us the feeling that it was authentic German food. One of us had Veal Schnitzel and the other had Jaeger Schnitzel (that's with mushrooms); both were very good. We both started with a mushroom soup that was fabulous. BTW, having been to Germany, we can vouch for the schnitzels.

For a resort town, the price was reasonable. We definitely will come back to this restaurant in the future.

The Best Western Castillo Del Sol received several good reviews from others, so we decided to check it out for ourselves and booked an "Ocean View Efficiency." The hotel and room were clean and well maintained. The efficiency unit had a nice-sized refrigerator, microwave, stove top and the basic utensils. The next time we come, we will bring some beverages and food for breakfast. Like other beach hotels, this one features a large outdoor pool with LOTS of lounges for your sunbathing convenience. From anywhere on Daytona Beach you can see the pier jutting out into the Atlantic. A lot of the night life revolves around the pier. When we visited on a weekday morning in early October it was very quiet! We found a parking spot on the street right next to the entrance and took a short walk. There are many restaurants, bars and shops. We didn't stay long, but will come back when guests want to visit Daytona Beach.

We didn't get a chance to do much; we spent most of our time on the beach. After we checked out we drove south on Atlantic Avenue to the tip of Ponce Inlet. It was a nice drive. If you want to get away from the crowds, some of the beaches south or Daytona looked very nice. It also looked like there was plenty of public parking near beach access.If we come back we will check out several activities.-- We would like to have dinner or lunch at the Ocean Deck in Daytona Beach.-- Our next day or overnight trip to the area would be to check out Lighthouse Point Park about 13 miles south of Ormond Beach.-- We would also like to check out New Symyra Beach....Read More
