Stamsund youth hostel is one of my favorite places in whole world. Apart from the fact that it's located in old beach houses, overlooking the sea, with green hills in background, main reason is owner. Roar Justad, unique person who runs this place, is at first sight uninterested for his guest, and some people might consider him rude. Well, this is just a surface, and if someone stay there few days, he will accept it, and share the treasure box of his knowledge. So, first day or two there just ask others in hostel anything you want to know, and people will tell you and help you. Atmosphere is always friendly, and many people would say that this is a home, far away from real one. Once you get there, acc...Read More

Stamsund, fishing village on Lofoten Vestvagoj island is for many people all over the world is something close to pilgrimage site. And I'm one of them. So, what is so special about this traditional village, far north in Norway? Actually nothing, because the reason to visit this place lays at small bay, near the village. It's the dockside hostel. Justad Robruer og Vandrerhjem is the name, and behind it is the legend of Roar Justad, owner of the place. Roar runs this HI (Hosteling International) hostel for quite some time, and over the years, unique blend of his extraordinary personality, great setting in beautiful surrounding, relaxing atmosphere and great choice of activities, makes this place magnet...Read More

Fishing village Reine is maybe the most scenic place in Norway. It sits beside a calm turquoise lagoon backed by pinnacled peaks. It's located on Moskensoy island, at the southern end of Lofoten islands, on E 10 highway. Village has doctor, post, bank, gas station and supermarket with attached bakery. There are a few restaurants and cafes. There are no hotels or hostels in the village, but there are few private rooms and "rorbuer" wooden cottages for rent. For good view of Reine, best option is to climb on summit of Reinebringen (670 m). It's a hard walk, but view is great. Track starts from E 10 highway, about 1 km south of Reinehalsen junction, and climbs very steeply to the ridge, ...Read More

A is southernmost village on Lofoten island Moskenesoy, at the end of E 10 highway.Village center is mostly consist of 19th century wooden buildings, that have been compiled into Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. Museum was established in 1989. Main theme is life in fishing village and Lofoten Fishery over last 200 years. This is just small piece of history, because fishing in this waters have very long tradition. When glaciers receded from Scandinavian north coastlines, the cod begin it's annual migration from Arctic to spawn in Lofoten waters. Every winter for thousands of years, people were fishing in this waters, and for last thousand years there was substantial trade in fish. There we...Read More

Hotel | "Hennumgarden Sjohus, Hostel in A, Lofoten"

Village A is situated at the south end of Lofoten E 10 highway. To get there take bus from ferry port in Moskenes, or walk southward about 5 km.Hennumgarden Sjohus is placed in historic wooden building that dates from the 1860s. There is choice of rooms from 2 to 4 beds. I was in 4 bed room, in which, at the time I was alone. Room was quite big, and in the event that is full, it won't be cramped. Overall, hostel was clean, with shared bathrooms and showers. There were cold and hot water, and hot showers were free (at some hostels in Norway, hot showers have to be paid for use). Must say that bathrooms were larger than in next-door Vandrerhjem, so there was no waiting line for shower. ...Read More
