View atop Querétaro

An August 2001 trip to Queretaro by lobosolo

The view from one of the highest points in the city is marvelous. The city itself is 470 years old and a lot of historic sites teem about in it. You might find a wide variety of activities all within a two hours drive from the city.

If you like history you will be elated to visit the Teatro de la República where the actual Mexican Constitution was signed. And if it is architecture what you like most, just walking around the city will give you lots of thrills, the city is a colonial one and some of the buildings are built in the XIV century.

Quick Tips:

For a quick tour around the city you might get a lot for your money if you decide to take an open bus. You will get info and tickets at the Plaza de la Constitución.

Best Way To Get Around:

Best way around is to walk, there is a lot of interesting points to do so. However, taxis are very cheap (compared, for instance with NYC or Houston) If you stay in a hotel in town square, you won't need taxis but to go to the airport or the bus station.
This building is built around 1570 and for a time was used as a community dwelling. It was reconstructed and decorated with XVI century furniture and you could say it is now a small hacienda. It is centrical and for sure you won''t need any taxis but to come and leave. It has only 25 rooms, but you can be sure with few rooms you will get the best of the Italian attention you can get. Ask for Mr. Del Prete and tell him Rafael Landin sent you.

Restaurant | "Los Remedios"

This is a fun restaurant, with excellent choices of typical Mexican food. The sopes poblanos are a succulent wide kind of tortilla fried with black beans, spicy meat and suce on top. You could avoid using your hands, but beleive me, it is not as tasty.

The restaurant is the one that serves the Holiday Inn Aeropuerto, just in case you couldn't get a room in Mesón de Santa Rosa Hotel (see journal). However, the sight is better here, you have a panoramic sight of the city, specially romantic at night. Food is very good, with standards you will find at any Holiday Inn
