I don't know what it is about southern Italy but I am madly in love with the place. Don't get me wrong I like northern Italy too. I like the mountains and lakes but I always find the weather in the north very unreliable and the northern Italians a bit cold and distant - a bit stuck-up, I suppose compared with the Romans. Camping in the south of Italy is a lot of fun - the sites are generally quite large although you can find smaller ones, and they are always bustling with colour and energy. The site is called Camping Village Le Capanne and it is situated near to the town of Bibbona. Medium in size, well equipped and has a rating of three stars. The location is good as it is about 2kms from the sea and within reach of the many Tuscan towns and the lovely hilly countryside. Pitches are set amongst pine and eucalyptus trees so shade is always available. Size of pitches are 80 to 100square metres The pitches have no seperation so it is easy for you to get to know your your neighbours. There is security at night in form of a guard and also be careful not to play music too loud after 10pm.
